Best mates forever
These celebrity pals spill about their special bond and
what it's like working together
Carla Bonner and Kym Valentine, How did you meet?
Kym: Almost 12 years ago on set. The poor love had to take over at
the last minute from another actress playing Steph who had just quit, so she
had 18 scenes to film on her first day!
Carla: The producer said that if I had any questions, Kym Valentine
lived up the road from me. We were real neighbours as well! I called her and
she was so supportive.
K: We bonded fast.
What do you get up to off set?
C: We've always been there for each other for the really special
things. Like when Kimmy had her baby, Millana, I rushed to the hospital.
K: We're both working mums now, but every now and then we'll hit the
town and go out for a bit of a dance. I think it's pretty funny when people
see Steph and Libby out in nice frocks and killer heels.
Do you have nicknames for each other?
K: My Bon Bon. If I call her Carla, she looks at me funny.
C: It feels like I'm in trouble. I just call her Kimmy. She's Kimmy
to everybody.
Who's better friends: Kym and Carla or your characters
Libby and Steph?
K: I think it's probably even. We used to leave work after spending
all day together, talk in the car, then text message each other later that
night. At the time, Bon sent me a message that I still have, saying, "Oh my
God, we're so Libby and Steph!
C: We're not neighbours in real life anymore, but I love her to bits.
I can imagine us staying
on the show until we're funny old women, like the female versions of Harold
(Ian Smith) and Lou (Tom Oliver)!
