Philadelphia is a city full of many important aspects such as a rich history, but for those of us who walk down the cobblestone streets of Independence Hall on a somewhat normal basis, the history becomes part of an everday scene rather than a tourist trap of excitement. For those of us born and raised in Philadelphia, the excitement is found in our sports. Though our city has repeatedly had to say "there's always next year" (although in 2008 many of us finally saw our first Philadelphia championship win), Philly fans have kept their heart and soul for each sport for years to come. From the Eagles to the Sixers, back to the Flyers, Phillies, and even some of our more unknown teams, fans always have faith and believe. When our teams lose, we take it to heart, and when our teams win, we celebrate with the best of them! Sports are part of our hometown heritage, and after seeing the many emotional reactions from fans as well as players over the years, I am proud to be part of the city with the most intense fans ever!
As a visitor, please be sure to stop by for a game - any game - and maybe, just maybe, the emotions throughout will bring you to love our sports no matter where you may be from! Enjoy our parks and arenas, as well as the opportunity to try some of Philly's well-known staples, such as hoagies, cheesesteaks, and pretzels, while watching any of our teams give their all! So sit back, grab a bucket of crab fries, and enjoy yourself!

RIP Harry the K.
Philly's True Voice, Forever Loved and Forever Missed

March 26, 1936-April 14, 2009

In 2008, a curse that had long hung over the city was finally broken - we saw one of our teams win a championship! This victory was long awaited - 28 years as a matter of fact (so long that it was my first championship)! Our Philadelphia Phillies, led by Charlie Manuel, beat the Tampa Bay Rays, despite their ridiculous mohawks, in an exciting yet short series (though the series was short, there was a rain delay which had fans on the edge of their seats, biting their nails and praying for their boys). Finally, on a Wednesday night in South Philadelphia, Brad Lidge threw the pitch that will be remembered forever in the hearts of Philly fans - this pitch was so amazing it made grown men cry (I should know, I saw it!) Parties throughout the city occurred that night - Cottman and Frankford, Broad Street, and 5 Points to say the least. A few days later, all of Philly poured into the streets and stadiums to support their champions.

Farewell to Pat Burrell and Brian Dawkins, two Philly Heroes that we will love forever.
