Chapter 32
*Nat*
It’s now New Years Eve. We both were in the living room waiting for that big ball to drop in Time Square. All of the kids were sleeping, now it’s not that bad with waking up in the middle of the night. We usually just do it once and then no one else wakes up. Anyway, we picked out a date for the wedding, now it’s going to be at the end of May. Which means if we get the money, a summer honeymoon. We had the food, the hall, the church, and my wedding dress thank you very much picked out. Now we just had the rest of the crew including Nick.
Anyway, we were on the floor, just because all the toys took up the rest of the couches. That’s how spoiled Nick’s family treats them, mine are also slowly coming back, my aunts and uncles spent Christmas along with Nick’s family and my mom at our little apartment. Nick had his arms wrapped around me, and I was just laying on him.
“Look Nat five seconds.” he said. As they counted down. “5,4,3,2,1.. Happy new year.” Nick and I looked at each other and gave each other a kiss on the lips, which was interrupted by the one cry of the night. Nick got up and took control of it. He’s really good at the father stuff. He never tells me no I’m not going to take the baby this time, whenever I’m to tired. He’s happy about them. After he got the babies to sleep, he came back in the living room. “Nick, what are you doing tomorrow?” I asked him. Knowing he was going out with the guys in the morning to play basketball.
“You mean today?” he joked. “Yeah.” I said as he pulled me on him. “Playing basketball with the guys.” he said with a smile. “Why?” he asked.
“Can you guys be back by two? So I can go looking for a house with your sisters and our mothers?”I asked.
He then got a serious look on his face. “Yeah, we’re leaving at ten, and I’ll tell them free food and football. They’ll come for that, just the babysitting will come along with it. But Nat, you know we can’t afford a house right now. I’m working one job, while your trying to work at the other whenever I come home. There’s no way...” he tried to continue when I put my fingers on his lips.
“Nicky, my mom said that she was going to take care of it. She wants the babies to grow up where, Lexi doesn’t have to share a bedroom with two boys. I want that to.” he sighed. “But I don’t want you mom paying so much on us.”
“She said that it’s part of her wedding present to you. And I like that my mommy want’s to help us.”
“What’s the other part of her present to me?” he asked. “Me.” I said as he put his forehead to mine. “That’s good enough, I don’t need a house. I just need you and the babies.”
“Ha, last time I checked you need your video games, and your sports. I didn’t see me in the picture.”
“Your always in the picture. I guess I could use a house with my other stuff in it. Where are you guys going to live?”
“Funny. Now carry me upstairs, I need my sleep.” I laughed as he carried me up.
*Nick*
~Around 3pm~
As me and the guys came into the house. All tired from playing hours of basketball. We all sat on the couches which were cleaned off from all of the toys. We sat and started to watch the football game.
A few hours later, we ordered a pizza, and that came, along with Nat coming up the stairs with two of the babies in her arms. I smiled at her. “Hey baby, is the other one in the car?” I asked. She nodded. And went into the apartment. I walked to the car, BJ was sitting in the front seat totally content on the music, probably waiting for a ride home, and pulled out Michael. “So what did your mommy do with you guys today?” I said to him. He laughed as I brought him upstairs.
I walked into the house, and closed the door. Brian and AJ each held a kid. “Where did Nat go?” I asked. “She pissed at you or something? She walked in handed us each a kid and slammed the bedroom door shut.” AJ said. I looked at Kevin and D who nodded.
“NICKALOUS GENE CARTER GET YOU BONEY BUTT IN HERE RIGHT NOW!!” Nat yelled.
“Umm. Kev, take him. I think I’m in trouble.” I said as I walked upstairs. I opened to door slowly, and closed it slowly seeing Nat looking at the dresser. “Yeah?” I said walking over to her.
“Don’t touch me.” she growled. I stood where I was, and looked at her confused.
“Do you have any idea what you were supposed to do today?” she asked looking at me.
“Umm..” I said still confused. “Wait let me help you out, what time did you promise to get home so you guys could watch the babies? And what time did you get home?” she asked.
“Fuck..” I said. “Yeah, that’s a good word for it. You know you PROMISED me that you would be home by two. But you didn’t get home till after that. I’m so lucky that everyone came here before hand, because then I had the help to get the kids in the car. And then you guys sit there and not even remember it. I don’t expect them to, but you yes. Nick, you do remember what day we plan on getting married right?” she asked.
“Yeah.” I said. “Good, then you won’t mind figuring something out by that time. Now go have fun with your friends, I’ll just take your sister home, and then I’ll put the kids to sleep. You won’t mind having to watch them for a few minutes or do I have to take them?” she said. “No, I can watch them.”
“Good. I’ll be back.” she said taking her keys and throwing me the baby bag.
I followed her down the stairs where, the babies were sitting in their car seats in front of the guys. “Hey guys, I’ll be back, help yourselves to anything.” she said as she walked out of the house.
“AJ that better not be a beer can in this house. Is it?” she asked him. He looked at it. “Well.. Yeah but..”
“Get it out of here, I don’t want Nick near that stuff.” she said as she slammed the door.
“Shit man, she is pissed at you.” AJ said looking at the can in front of him. “Yeah I know, just get it out of here before she becomes more pissed at me.”
He threw it out, and Brian came and sat next to me with Andrew in his arms. “What happened?” he asked.
“I promised her that we would be home before she left and we didn’t.”
“What’s so big about that?” AJ asked sitting down. I looked at him. “Do you know how much work it takes to take three babies out? Plus the fact that I promised her. I screwed up big time.” I said looking at Andrew trying to get out of Brian’s arms and into mine. “Come here baby.” I said taking him into my arms.
“So you two get into a fight, big deal.” AJ said. I looked at him. “AJ, you don’t understand, she’s the only girl that ever understood me, and I promised her. We’re getting married in May.” I said looking at him. “Sorry Nick. I always thought you two were always fighting.”
“No, we barely ever do. But she’s really mad, she even yelled at you.”
I looked at the door as it opened and Nat walked in. The rest of the guys just stared at the TV.
Nat walked up to Brian and took Lexi from him. “I’m going to start taking them to bed. So can you guys keep it down?” she said. They all nodded. “We’re going to leave as soon as the game is over.” Kev said. She shook her head, “No that’s alright. As long as it’s quite I don’t care.” she said walking to the babies room upstairs.
I watched as she took Michael from AJ’s hands and took him. As she came back to take Andrew from me. She looked at my eyes and then at the baby in my arms. “Can you put him down? I don’t want to wake him.” she said. I nodded and walked to the babies room. After I put him down I kissed each of the kids heads, and turned around to see Nat standing there watching me. “I’m going to go to bed too. So clean up after they leave okay?” she said.
“Alright.” I said. She walked away without saying goodnight.

That night, I went to bed, and tried to wrap my arms around Nat, she shrugged them away, making me feel really bad. I woke up during that night to Andrew crying, and this cry wasn’t the normal cry...
