Chapter 6
"Nick! Hurry! Your mom is here!" Caitlin called to me. Caitlin was carrying her pillow and a bag over her shoulder. I was pretty tired so I took my time walking out to my mom's car. I noticed my mom was hugging Caitlin when I walked outside. It warmed my heart inside. I was lucky to have such a good friend.
By the next five minutes, we were making my way up our driveway. My little twin siblings, Aaron and Angel, were playing outside in the mud by the gate. We laughed as we heard my mother scold my father about the twins. I looked over to see AJ, Brian, Kevin and Howie laughing along, too. "Guys, this is my friend, Caitlin, " I said as we walked over to them. They all greeted her very nice. Especially AJ, that little flirt. We talked for a while until Angel tugged on Caitlin's shorts.
"Hi, Angel," Caitlin said to her. Angel smiled, her brown eyes gazing into Caitlin's green ones.
"I'm all dirty!" Angel exclaimed, showing Caitlin her dirtied hands that were covered in mud.
"Well, let's go wash you up!" Caitlin said as she picked Angel up and carried her inside. Caitlin always told me that she loved kids, so my brother and sisters were the siblings that Caitlin never had. I watched them walk into the house and then into the kitchen with Aaron running behind.
"Ooh, Nicky's got a girlfriend, Nicky's got a girlfriend!" the guys teased me.
"Oh, shut-up!" I retorted as we walked into the house. We walked in and saw Caitlin and Aaron and Angel reading a book in the living room.
"Remember this book, Nick?" Caitlin asked me. I looked down at the book and smiled. It was Grover Sleeps Over. Our parents used to read that to the two of us when we were little to try to make us fall asleep. It wasn't working on Aaron and Angel, however. They listened to her read it, but weren't getting sleepy. Just then my mom came in the room with BJ, Leslie, and my father.
"Let's listen to you sing!" Caitlin said, and picked Aaron up and placed him in her lap. We all cleared our throats and began singing. I noticed that Caitlin was listening intently to each one of our voices and clapped when we were finished.
"You guys were soo good!" she gushed, obviously in awe. Tomorrow we decided to go downtown to do a little shopping to welcome Brian into the area. Caitlin and I were happy because we both got to miss school.
The guys left at 8:30. My dad and I brought down the spare bed we kept in the attic and put it in BJ's room for Caitlin.
"Good night, BJ. Good night, Caitlin," I said to both of them.
"Night Nick," Caitlin said while she brushed her hair. I didn't want to admit it, but a little crush was harboring in my heart for my best friend.
