An Ocean Away

Chapter 2

"Woah! Look at all these people!" Riana gushed. Today was the big day, the day where the words of one human being could change her life forever.

"Yea, you don't really have tough competition..."Leah murmured, looking at all of the women that had lined up outside of the audition location.

"Leah, beauty is skin deep," Riana said, applying some lipstick to her full lips. She smiled at her reflection in her compact and quickly shut it.

"Beauty may be skin deep, but not for a modeling agency," Leah said. Leah was older, about half a year older than Riana, and she was way smarter than Riana. Riana looked down at herself. She did have the height to be a model; with her long lucious tanned legs, they made her stand at a tall 5' 9. She was not an inch overweight. However, modeling angencies went for the girls with dark hair and had a mysterious look in her eyes. Riana ran her hands nervously through her blonde hair that ran one inch past her shoulders. Her sparkling blue-green eyes watched as a women waltzed out the door wearing nothing but a bikini. Riana's mouth dropped open for the woman was way over 200 pounds.

"Ree, if she can do it, you can do it," Leah whispered into her ear. Riana smiled.

"Thanks, Leah." Riana said as the line moved forward. Riana sighed. "Wish me luck!" she said and walked into the doors. ______________________________________

"Guys, that was great!" Kevin exclaimed as the guys sat on the bus after their last show in England.

"I know! That was one of our best shows yet!" AJ said, draping a damp towel over his sweaty red head.

"So, where do we go now?" Nick asked, popping his head out of his bunk.

"Home!" they all said.

"I can't wait to be in my own bed," Nick said. All the guys nodded in agreement. This would be their first time home in seven months, and they couldn't wait.

"Well, how did it go?" Leah asked Riana when she returned home from the audition. Riana replied by sinking down into the couch.

"That bad, huh?" Leah asked. Riana nodded.

"I don't know how these girls do it! Half of them are anorexic while the other half are bulemic!" Riana complained. "And they were so tough! Every little thing has to be perfect, otherwise, there goes your carreer!"

"I'm sorry, Ree. When will they make the decision?" Leah asked. She felt bad for Riana. Leah knew that she had wanted to be a model since childhood. Now at eighteen, she still wanted that to be her career.

"They said they will call in the middle of the week sometime," she told her. Leah nodded and looked at her watch.

"Well, its late and I'm tired. I'm going to bed, you wanna stay here for the night?" Leah offered.

"Sure," Riana replied. "Let me just call Jeff, ok?" she said, calling her overprotective boyfriend who was probably worried sick about her by now.

"You're still with him?? Didn't you tell me like, a month ago that you were going to dump him?" Leah asked. Riana nodded. Leah shook her head and went upstairs to make the bed in the guest room for Riana.

"Hello?" Riana asked late Wednesday night. She had fallen asleep on the couch in her apartment that she shared with her boyfriend Jeff.

"Hello, is Riana Walker there?" a voice asked.

"Speaking. How may I help you?" Riana asked.

"On behalf of the London Modeling Agency, I would like to congratulate you on your success! You have been chosen out of 600 girls to be on the cover of Teen magazine," the voice said.

"I WON?!?!?" Riana screamed, sitting up from her position from the couch.

"Congratulations, my dear. We will be sending out some information to you shortly," the phone said, and clicked.

"OMIGOD!!!! I WON!!!!!" Riana screamed, jumping up on the coffee table and jumping for joy.

"What are you doing?" Jeff asked, coming from the kitchen.

"I won! I'm going to be on the cover of Teen!" she breathed. "What?" Riana asked when she saw his face grow dark.

"You know how I don't like you modeling. It's not safe," Jeff warned her. Riana sighed. She had been with Jeff for two years now. He should have learned to grow with the fact that it was her life, not his. She should be the ones making decisions here.

"Jeff, you know how much I love this."

"I know, but you know about all those stories with models...." Jeff trailed off.

"No, actually, I don't..."Riana said.

"I don't know. I just don't like you doing it." Jeff said, crossing his arms.

"Well, Jeff. There is something that I have been wanting to tell you for a long time..." Riana said, looking at the floor.

"Can you save it for later, Ree? I have the late shift at work. Tell me in the morning, ok?"

"Yea, sure. It can wait, I guess...." she said. She watched him from the window as his car drove down the road. She could always count on Jeff to spoil her good mood. No matter how hard she tried, she could never tell him that she didn't love him anymore. As much as she tried to tell him, she didn't have the heart to. Well, she would. She would.

**4 MONTHS LATER**

"Yo, Bri. Where did you get that magazine?" Nick asked Brian on the plane.

"I got it back at the airport. Why?" Brian asked, looking down at the magazine he was holding.

"I don't know, it just seemed kind of funny that you are reading a Teen magazine," Nick laughed.

"Shut up," Brian said, tossing the magazine into Nick's chest.

"Ouch!" Nick called, placing a hand over his heart in mocked pain. He was about to throw the magazine back at his pal, but instead something caught his eye. A girl with blonde hair and dazzling eyes smiled up at him.

"She looks familiar...." Nick mumbled to himself. He flipped through the table of contents and stopped when he saw her again.

"A Day In The Life of Riana Walker," by Scott Brown. Page 95," Nick said outloud and thumbed through the pages. Nick found himself reading all of the little tidbits with slight enjoyment. The article read:
Name: Riana Walker
Birthplace: London, England
Current Residence: London, England
Family: One brother and two sisters

The article went on and on from favorite foods to the most embarrassing moment. He looked at the pictures that followed the article and smiled, surprising himself. This is the first time he smiled at a girl since...her. Nick shook his head, trying to erase her from his mind. She did this to him. She was the one that made him no longer trust anyone from the opposite sex. But, looking down at the girl that stood before him, her eyes speaking to him from a picture, he thought that this girl wouldn't hurt a fly.

' Why am I fantasizing about her? I don't even know her!" Nick said in his mind. Nick closed his eyes and shut the book, placing it by his feet and closing his eyes, trying desperately to get her face out of his mind.

"Am I actually talking to THE Riana Walker?" Leah asked over the phone. Riana laughed on the other end.

"Yes, it's me. Wanna do something today?" Riana asked. She finally had the day off and she wanted to spend it with her best friend.

"Yeah! After all, it's not everyday that I get to hang out with England's most beautiful model," Leah joked.

Riana smiled when she said that. Over the past year, her dream had slowly started coming true. She was now a known model, even though she was kind of young. However, the photo shoots and meetings were unbearable. She didn't know that it was so hard to be a model! The scariest part was Jeff. Riana had broken up with him in November. Now it was May, and all he did was call her non stop, even threatening her. Leah gave Riana no choice but to call the police, and get a restraining order against him. But he still persisted.

"Ok. I'll pick you up in an hour, ok?" Riana asked.

"Ok! See ya then!" Leah said and hung up the phone.
