This is a closer picture of 3 delicate quartz birds from January 99. The left one, CB found, center and right,I found, all from Warren Co. NC site. The 2 at left are clear crystal, the right milky quartz that was "twice found". It fell in the full trash can and I couldn't find it. I stewed over it 2 days, then sorted garbage in rubber gloves until it sifted out. I couldn't stand for the little fellow to be reburied!
These came from a colonial Roanoke River site. I'd found lots of pipe stems before, I thought, but never 45 in one day on one knoll! Other than this strand, a few broken points and early painted china and green glass, this February 13 walk was not very productive.
February 20- More river site finds, notably the shale Kirk stemmed in the center, nice Guilford and the 4 translucent gold quartzite pieces-a Savannah River point, 2 Savannah River oval scrapers and a square knife. Vic found a killer-diller serrated-narrow waisted-flared out bifurcated 1 3/4" LeCroy- pictures to come??
My best 3+" KIRK SERRATED, found in 1990
