LATEST NC FINDS

JANUARY 3 1999

The first walk of the year, and the Guifords were running! The two big and thin Guilford-Yuma base were 10" apart on a favorite Guilford campsite, sticking straight up like rockets. The rest are an assortment of Archaic point types and lithic materials.

January 24 1999

These came from a mile or two down the road-a huge cutover that includes a Woodland village site and some Early Archaic occupation on the hilltops. The Kirk Serrated is very nicely flaked, and the crystal bird points are fine. We picked up a gallon of broken birds made of crystal, high grade rhyolite and silicified shale. There is a considerable amount of Middle Woodland pottery on this site.

SAME SITE-Different days

The two best birds in this pic are the smallest- the serrated mini on the bottom left, and the thin and beautiful slightly eared point three to the right of that. The large uniface scraper is one of the largest I've found, and the tiny crystal beveled scraper is quite rare.
