My name is Joseph P'catewah-Mikona (Blackfeather). I am "Al'lil'lik" - also known as "Ta'ta'viam" (The people facing the sun) of the Western Shoshoni/Chumash Nation. I also carry German ancestory from the Bavarian Celtics but I can't prove the white part. My mother was born of the "Black Bird Clan"....
My special brand of art is done on all types, shapes & sizes of wood (Natural Plaques, Shaped Plaques, Plates of different sizes and shapes, Boxes of different sizes, Single and Double Switch Plates, Door knob signs, Lamps, Candle holders, Napkin holders, spoons, forks and other different nik-naks of sizes and shapes). I burn images into the wood. These images
can be taken from a photo of a family member or favorite
pet. Or something from my own heart, soul and mind. My
custom work seems to please those I do the art work for.
I dont claim to be the best at what I do, and Im sure there
are many others who may do alot better than I. But, I injoy
what I do and it would mean alot to me, If you have a few
minutes to spare, to check out my work. Even if you wish not to buy anything that's o.k. I've been doing woodburning-art for 8 years or so. There
are about 8 bits to be used when woodburning. In my work, I only use 2 bits, a lining bit and a shading bit to get the desired effects for light, shadow and contures.
There has been some big changes. The Art Gallery "BLACKFEATHER WOOD ART & Other Unique Items" called North Carolina its home from "98" to "02" Then New Mexico was home (might be calling NM home once again) but for now home is Maryland. The Gallery is no longer open to the public and many of the items we had are no longer available BUT my art work is still running strong. "BLACKFEATHER WOOD ART" has been up and running even without a head quarters. I have been working out of my home doing custom orders and my own creations plus my handmade jewelry (Earrings, Necklesses and Chokers)
The children of the LAKOTA NATION wrote a prayer which I used and created a beautiful keepsake frame. These prayers have touched many people who read them and wanted a frame for their home.
