CUSTOMS & RITUALS

The Eastern Woodland Indians gave gifts to spirits in trade for the spirits to guard areas they thought were dangerous to them.

The older boys of the tribe went on a vision quest. They stayed in the forest by themselves without eating or drinking for several days. At this time the boy would take in the spirit of an animal and the spirit guided and helped him through the rest of his life.

The people all spoke common language.

They all had similar customs.
