FUTURE PEACE

Demon

April 15, 2065

Wednesday

Tempo has been having sleep disturbances and sleep walking for he past two weeks. She is listless during the day and a Zombie at night. She believes she is being influenced by Chasm, but is not able to prove it. She never sleeps a whole night.

Then he disturbances leak into her waking hours. The Guardians out of concern place Tempo in a hospital for observation. The disturbances also occur there. Tempo grows extremely violent in the episodes and often has to be sedated for her own protection.

Union, Anoki and Crystal, along with Blake take special interest in finding out what is wrong with Tempo.

HOSPITAL: Tempo sits in a big chair across from the others. She is somewhat nervous but controlled.

Anoki- What is with you? Why do you throw things, try to block the entrances and smash glass?

Tempo- Why don't you see?

Union- See what?

Tempo- Why am I the only one... I smell and feel him.... Can't you see him?

Blake- No, we don't. Who is he?

Tempo- If only I knew.... (she glances at Crystal) Crys...you should be able to see him.... When he comes, you'll see him won't you, you'll see.

Crystal- I don't know.

Union- Why is it a him?

Tempo- He has a masculine smell, musty.

Anoki- Could you be imagining it?

Tempo- Did you and Crystal imagine the old Aborigine man on the island? Remembers he talked to you as children, the ghost.

Crystal- How do you know about that?

Anoki- We never told anyone.

Tempo- I'm psychic remember?

Crystal- But we actually saw him.

Tempo- I smell and feel him, is that less real?

Blake- I'm sure you think you saw or smelled this man but....

Tempo- It is real!

Moments Later: Tempo tuns white and leaps back off her chair and falls into a corner of the room, claming up. The others become on the defensive.

Union- Is he here now?

Tempo- Yes, I smell him.

Crystal concentrates and she is able to sense the 'ghost' in the room. Blake too is able to see an image of the spirit. Anoki and Union only sense the spirit on a different level. They sense the evil energy and ?mind? in the room.

Crystal- I see him.... He is dressed in a Medieval French Military uniform and jabbering in something like French.

Blake- It sounds much older than French or Latin..... Anoki, do you hear it?

Anoki- I can hear him, but I don't know what the language is either.... He is full of hatred.

Union- Why is he so evil?

Blake- I don't like this spirit... He is hiding something. What does he want?

Crystal looks straight into the man?s blood shot, black eyes.

Crystal- What do you want spirit?

Blake- What do you want?

The spirit does not answer Blake or Crystal but walks around the room silently observing the five young people. He takes a special interest in Blake and Crystal who can see and hear him. He reaches out and touches Blake's arm. He grows cold and faints, dropping to the floor like a rock. Union and Anoki tend to Blake as Crystal follows him around the room.

Crystal- I see you, I smell you, I hear you, now just leave, you are not wanted here.

The spirit turns around and grins a Crystal, then vanishes. Tempo recovers her composer and Blake soon wakes up.

Blake- That spirit was full of deceit and evil. Why did it come to you Tempo?

Tempo- I don't know.

Crystal- Why not, he came to you?

Tempo- I don't, I don't know. Maybe he wants me to help him, but I cannot even see him or hear him.

Anoki- What kind of ghost is he?

Union- What could a ghost want with any of us?

Blake- I don't think it was a spirit, it was denser, fuller, more powerful. Not human.

Anoki- What then?

Blake- Something that could do this to my arm....

Blake pulls up his sleeve to show a hand print burn on is skin

Blake- I think he is a demon.

Union- A demon?

Crystal- A demon.... That is exactly what he was.

Anoki- Couldn't be.

Tempo- A demon...A demon is after me?

Blake- Demon, spirit, whatever. He, it was a very powerful evil force. We each saw of felt it in your own way. When it touched me, my muscles locked, I felt a cold, searing cold pain of evil and death. No ordinary ghost could do this.

Tempo- See, I am not crazy!

The teens are overwhelmed by the implications of the spirit actually being a fabled and scriptured demon. Demons are not supposed to exist, to their knowledge.

Tempo- Why won't it just leave me alone, I am not evil?

Blake- I don't mean to be cruel, but I think it wants you and perhaps the rest of us now.

Anoki- It will defiantly go after all of us now!

Union- We need to talk to an expert on this matter and get advice of what to do.

Crystal- There is nowhere to hide from this beast.

They seek out the advice of a Catholic Priest, who tells them the one sure fire way to get rid of a demon.

Priest- To be rid of the 'beast' you have to undergo a religious Baptism. This will ward off the evil spirit.... By taking the Lord into your heart, evil cannot hurt you.

The young people discuss religion and the implications of accepting a religion versus allowing the evil to take control of Tempo and perhaps come after the rest of them as well.

Then the choice is made.

They invite a nondenominational priest to perform a ceremony. The Peacekeepers take part in the ceremony which, blends the fundamentals that exist in all religions into one oath that the teens can accept and not be transcribing to a specific religion. The middle-aged French woman, dressed in full black and gold robes with her hair tired back performs the ceremony in Latin. The teens bow down before her and are anointed with water and blessed.

Priest- Their religion is "Earth", natural as is all that is good. Blessed by the Creator of life and joined in love. Pure of their own faith, all evil shall be cast from their hearts and not be able to dwell in them in the future. Sacred are these children of the land of mother Earth.

The priest passed them with a large bowl of sand. They each fill their hands with the white sand.

Priest- Evil shall pass through them as this blessed Earth does through their fingers.

They release the sand, which trickles through their digits and falls gracefully to the floor. They focus ahead at the priest. She places down the bowl and picks up on the ceremony again.

Priest- The Earth is their home amongst the stars in this vast universe. Let it be apart of them and protect them.

After the ceremony is finished, a shift occurs in the twelve young people. They gain wisdom and a sense of who they are that they did not have before. None of them see the demon that was preying on Tempo ever again.
