Labyrinth 2: A New Maze

It has been seventeen years since Sarah went into the Labyrinth to rescue her little half brother, Toby from the clutches of Jareth, the Goblin King. Since then the Labyrinth has changed. Jareth is no longer in power; his daughter Jeniiy is the Ruler of the Goblin City. She has waited some years to get her revenge on Sarah for destroying her father and corrupting his goblins' loyalties
.
1 INT: BEDROOM- DAY
MEGAN is in her room trying on a training bra her mom got her, even though she doesn?t yet have any cleavage. A gifted student, she was placed two grades ahead, making her the smallest kid in junior high, so that she has a lot of catching up to do. MEGAN, like a lot of young girls feels that they should look all grown up like young women on television. In her school play the past spring, she played Orphan Annie. Even still, her 'friends' prank-call her and ask for Annie.
Ten year-old, MEGAN is a dreamer. With her long brown hair, with blonde streaks she looks somewhat like her mother at her age, but she has her father?s bright blue eyes. She is very energetic and outgoing, though often excluded by classmates because of her personality quirks, intelligence and age. She is basically a kid.
MEGAN retrieves some socks from her drawer and stuffs them up into her bra which, puckers out her shirt with a cartoon character on it.
MEGAN- No hope that they'll grow over night. Geez! Mom still likes to dress me like I'm five.
Looks at herself in mirror, and smiles at the thought of breasts
MEGAN- ...Well if I grew then mom would have to buy me grown up clothes.
She goes to her desk,pulls out a magazine and flips to the back where the advertisements are. She finds the ad for breast enhancement and rips it out. She looks it over closer.
MEGAN- Breasts in just eight weeks!... I hope it works, I sent them thirty dollars for it. (she gets mad) But it has been five and nothing had happened yet.
MEGAN reaches into her shirt and pulls out the socks and throws them across her room in frustration and crosses her arms.
MEGAN- They must be lying! Stupid stuff doesn't work!
Megan plops down in front of her computer and clicks on pictures that she had altered of herself in Photoshop that put her face in the body of young singers, actress? and models who she would like to look like. She looks at images of herself with disgust. She hates her long hair pulled into pigtails or into a big frilly bow, but that is how her mom likes to put her hair. She wishes to be as pretty as her mom is when she grows up. Megan wouldn't have such a problem with looking her age if she wasn't in an advanced grade. But being in class with other kids, all older than you is a lot of pressure. Most of her friends are also allowed to wear fashion clothes, and not shopped for like Megan is. Megan was happy the day her mom let her pick out her favorite shirt, which is green, snug fitting and feels like satin. She often pairs it with a pair of worn in overhauls and her favorite sneakers.
She opens up a file of a cute photo of her dressed up as fairy princess from last Halloween. She uses a paint brush tool to draw a mustache on her face, then erases it and uses the lasso tool to grab an area of her chest and she goes into the filters and spherizes it to make an imitation of breasts. She elongates herself and carves in her waist to make it appear that she has hips.
MEGAN- Nope, still look stupid. I'll just have to grow up. Photoshop cannot fix me.
There is a knock on Megan's door and her MOTHER, SARAH pops her head in. MEGAN shuts off her monitor quickly, before her mother can see and turns to the door.
SARAH- Megan, honey, Toby is here, why don?t you come down and say hello.
MEGAN- TOBY? He's here!
MEGAN becomes all excited and starts bouncing around the room. Her mother comes in further and grabs a brush and a bow and puts it in Megan's hair as Megan tries to put on her shoes.
SARAH- He drove down to visit you. Hold still...
MEGAN- Mom, my shoes...
Lifts head so her mom can put in the bow
MEGAN- You never said Toby was coming! Aren?t you and dad going out tomorrow?
SARAH- Yes and that is why Toby is here. Surprise! (finishing MEGAN's HAIR) Now don?t you look pretty.
MEGAN- Okay, thanks!...
MEGAN finishes tying her shoes and leaps out of the room and runs down the hall.
MEGAN- TOBY!
MEGAN comes running down the stairs, missing most of them and jumps into TOBY's arms. TOBY greets his young niece and smiles at her.
TOBY- So how you doing kiddo?
MEGAN hates being called a kid, but she?ll take anything from TOBY.
MEGAN- I'm great, how about you?
TOBY- I got into Texas A&M for next fall!
MEGAN- You'll be able to visit all the time!
TOBY- Well not all the time, I do need to study. But A&M has the courses I want, plus they will give me a partial scholarship.
SARAH enters quietly behind MEGAN.
SARAH- So you didn't get into UNC or NYU?
TOBY- UNC accepted me, but that would be out of state tuition with not even a partial scholarship to help out.
SARAH- Then what about a school back home?
TOBY- Would you really want to live near mom?
SARAH- Oh!
MEGAN- What did grandma do?
TOBY- Me and her, just don't get along the best anymore.
MEGAN- Why?
TOBY- Because I want to be an Artist and she wants me to study business.
MEGAN- Oh, but you are good at art. You won all those awards in high school. Doesn't that mean you should be an artist?
TOBY- I thought so.
SARAH- Toby, just be your own man and forget about trying to please mom.
TOBY- That's what dad told me.
SARAH
- And he was right!On the evening of their anniversary SARAH asks TOBY to baby-sit for 10 year-old MEGAN, while her and her husband, PHILIP go out for the night. TOBY agrees and spends the night playing chess and video games with his active niece.
The doorbell rings and TOBY answers it. There stands a pretty blonde haired GIRL with dark brown eyes and a pizza in hand.
GIRL - Pizza Hut! A large pepperoni and mushroom.
MEGAN- What is it Toby?
MEGAN stares up at the PRETTY DELIVERY GIRL
TOBY- (to MEGAN) Pizza. (to GIRL) There must be a mistake, I never ordered a pizza. This is my sister's home.
GIRL- (looks at receipt) It was ordered by a Sarah Williams-Smith, she already paid for it.
GIRL hands the pizza to TOBY
TOBY looks over the ticket in the dim porch light.
MEGAN- Mommy ordered pizza!?
GIRL- (to MEGAN) Don't you like pizza?
MEGAN- Of course!
TOBY- Oh? She never said anything about a pizza coming. Thanks.
Grasps the pizza, he reaches into his pocket and hands the delivery GIRL a five dollar bill tip
TOBY- Thanks again!
GIRL- Sure! Enjoy your pizza!
MEGAN- PIZZA!
MEGAN begins to jump up and down, and lights up
TOBY- Come on inside if you want some.
4 INT: KITCHEN- NIGHT
TOBY takes the pizza to the kitchen and opens it. Steam rolls off the hot surface and the smell of the food fills the room. MEGAN grabs out the plates with clanking and gives one to TOBY. TOBY serves them and they sit at the kitchen table and eat several slices each.
TOBY- So where does your mom keep the cookies?
MEGAN- Nowhere, I can't have them.
TOBY- What do you do, break out?
MEGAN- I get hyper....
TOBY- So! I want cookies
MEGAN- That's mom.... No snacks and junk....
TOBY- She does hate junk.... must be why she keeps things so tidy.
5 INT: LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
They continue playing board games for awhile longer and MEGAN becomes bored. She goes to her room and retrieves the copy of LABYRINTH she had secretly taken from her mother's old things. She tries to get TOBY to read lines with her and pretend to be the Goblin King, while she plays the part of the GIRL looking for the baby. MEGAN uses her WHITE CAT, PINKY as the baby. PINKY tolerates the GIRL's play and is quiet while being held like a BABY with a bonnet on her head. TOBY agrees reluctantly to play along, but after awhile he begins to feel uncomfortable reading the lines.
MEGAN- Oh come on Toby, you are the ?Goblin King?, you have to read the lines where you come and steal the baby. Then I try to get the child back from you. It is easy!
TOBY- Megan, I really don't think we should be reading this story, this late at night.
MEGAN- Mom won't be home for another hour of more. They are making a whole big thing of their wedding anniversary... Please read the lines with me?
TOBY tries to overcome his uneasiness with the LABYRINTH and continues to read.

MEGAN - YOU'RE HIM, AREN'T YOU? YOU'RE THE GOBLIN KING. I WANT MY BROTHER BACK, IF IT'S ALL THE SAME.
TOBY- WHAT'S SAID IT SAID.
MEGAN- BUT, I DIDN'T MEAN IT.
TOBY- OH, YOU DIDN'T?
MEGAN- PLEASE, WHERE IS HE?
TOBY- YOU KNOW VERY WELL WHERE HE IS.
MEGAN- PLEASE BRINGS HIM BACK. PLEASE.
TOBY- GOES BACK TO YOUR ROOM. PLAY WITH YOUR TOYS AND YOUR COSTUMES... FORGET ABOUT THE BABY.
A bolt of lightning crashes outside the house from an unknown storm. MEGAN stops reading and looks out the living room window to see her old tree house in the backyard was struck and is in shambles. She turns to TOBY with misty eyes.
MEGAN- It hit my tree house, It?s ruined Toby, it's all ruined.
TOBY comes up and looks out at the dimly lit mess hanging from the tree.
TOBY- I guess I can help you fix it tomorrow if you want, but you are a bit old for a tree house anyway Megan and maybe it is for the better.
She looks at him with rage in her eyes.
MEGAN- It isn't the same!
She runs off crying to her room. TOBY watches her, as the realization of what he said to her sinks in. TOBY's face reddens with embarrassment for hurting his NIECE's feelings. PINKY sits on the floor with HER bonnet on and MEOWS at TOBY knowingly and winks.
She storms into her room and throws down all her toys on her bed except and old teddy bear which she holds tightly and buries her face in the pillow. Moments later TOBY comes in with the LABYRINTH BOOK and PINKY.
TOBY- I'm sorry for hurting your feelings Megan.
She doesn?t answer him
TOBY- Well, Pinky wanted to come in with you, I think the thunder scared her.
He sets the cat onto her bed and places the book next to MEGAN and leaves
TOBY- Goodnight!
A little while after TOBY leaves MEGAN lifts up her head and looks at the cat who is rubbing it's head on her shoulder. She reaches around and pets the creature and whispers an apology for leaving her in the living room. She pulls the bonnet of the animal?s head and rubs behind her ears, the cat purrs. MEGAN tosses the hat onto the floor with the toys and finds the BOOK beside her and thumbs through it to where the heroine has the final confrontation with the Goblin King. She recites.
MEGAN- GIVE ME THE CHILD. THROUGH DANGERS UNTOLD AND HARDSHIPS UNNUMBERED,I HAVE FOUGHT MY WAY HERE TO THE CASTLE BEYOND THE GOBLIN CITY TO TAKE BACK THE CHILD THAT YOU HAVE STOLEN, FOR MY WILL IS AS STRONG AS YOURS, AND MY KINGDOM IS AS GREAT. YOU HAVE NO...
A flash of lightning and thunder boom. The lights all cut off and the shadowy form of a woman appears in front of MEGAN's bed. A deep magenta glow is surrounding her and she wears same colored dark pink clothes of silks and spandex with knee high boots. Her hair is long, blond and styled a lot like a Tina Turner wig, very puffy. The woman speaks with a scary sort of knowledge, power and arrogance. She frightens MEGAN, whose voice shudders.
JENIIY- (spooky, slow) Power over You?
MEGAN- Who are you?
JENIIY- You should know who I am.
MEGAN- Is this a joke, are you a friend of Toby's?
JENIIY- I am no Friend, I have come for you... Your mother is Sarah, is she not?
MEGAN- That is my mother's name, but...
JENIIY- Your mother defeated Jareth, the Goblin King 17 years ago. She solved the Labyrinth and ruined his kingdom...
MEGAN- (nervous laugh) Goblin King? This is a joke?
JENIIY- This is no joke.
The woman raises a glass ball in front of MEGAN's face and shows her MOTHER as a teen and scenes of her traveling through the Labyrinth.
JENIIY- She destroyed him
MEGAN- This cannot be real, 'Labyrinth' is a book, it isn't real.
JENIIY- This is real child.
A group of about a dozen goblins appears beside her and stare fiercely at the young GIRL. A FAT GOBLIN, named TIBLETO reaches out and grabs PINKY and holds it toward the WOMAN.
TIBLETO - This would make a good meal, Queen can I take it?
MEGAN- No, you can't take Pinky.
TIBLETO- Yummy, Pinky meat.
MEGAN- No!
MEGAN tries to get the CAT back from the tall, FAT GOBLIN.
TOBY begins banging on MEGAN's door and shouting.
JENIIY- Let the beast go, Tibleto.
TIBLETO lets the CAT go after licking it?s back
TIBLETO - Would have been tasty.
TOBY manages to break down the door and freezes at the site of the GOBLINS and the WOMAN.
TOBY- Who are you?
JENIIY- I am Jeniiy, Queen of the Goblins.
TOBY- What? Why are you here?
JENIIY- I have come for your niece, Toby.
TOBY- Megan stays here lady!
JENIIY- My goblins and I have other plans. Tell your sister Sarah hello when she returns. I shall have vengeance for my father, Jareth.
TOBY- Tell her yourself. Megan stays here.
JENIIY makes a slight motion and then the GOBLINS grab BOTH the YOUNG PEOPLE.
JENIIY- Then you both shall come. It will be like a homecoming for you Toby.
JENIIY throws the ball up and it pops like a bubble and a mist falls over ALL OF THEM and THEY FADE AWAY.
They rematerialize inside the Labyrinth. They stand dwarfed by high iron gates dripping with vine plant life, ivy.
JENIIY- I dare you to get out of my Labyrinth. The dangers are far more perilous than seventeen years ago.
TOBY- You can't do this!
JENIIY- I can do anything I want.
She waves her hand
JENIIY- Let's see if you two can find one another.
MEGAN disappears
TOBY- Where is she witch?
JENIIY- In another part of my maze. Try to survive, if you can and find your little niece.
JENIIY vanishes
TOBY looks around himself and begins to walk through the maze of tall iron gating grown over with ivy.
TOBY- Should be easy enough.
TOBY follows his intuitions and walks quickly through the maze of vine and metal.
MEGAN finds herself in a maze of large rock walls. She is totally confused. She begins to wander through the maze, encountering several dead ends and blind alleys. She remembers her BOOK.
MEGAN- Through dangers untold?hmmm, I wonder what they are? (she looks up and sees the castle in the distant) I guess I am supposed to go there. I hope TOBY goes there too.
After an hour or more of wandering MEGAN is growing anxious and she begins to worry that she won?t get through the Labyrinth by herself. She yells out for TOBY, hoping that he might hear her. Then she comes to the realization that she is alone.
MEGAN- Toby! Toby! Oh where are you?
She sits down against a wall and begins to cry
MEGAN- I want to go home. What did I do to deserve being here? I want to go home? TOBY! TOBY! TOOOBBBYYY!! (sobbing)
MEGAN begins banging her head against the wall with her eyes closed and mumbling to herself.
MEGAN- I am so stupid? Stupid book, stupid Labyrinth with it's stupid mazes.
MEGAN drops her head into her lap and covers her face with her hands.
A little FAIRY buzzing by stops when she hears the LITTLE GIRL crying. The fairy's tawny complexion glows beneath her clothes as her wings flutter. She looks down gently at the GIRL and speaks to her in a mother like voice.
FAIRY- Why are you crying little girl?
MEGAN- I'm lost. The Queen put my uncle, Toby and me in here and I cannot find him.
FAIRY- Oh, well my name is Rebi. I'll help you find him if you will stop crying.
MEGAN- You're nice, I thought the fairies in the Labyrinth were mean.
REBI- (laugh) Lots of us are, but that is just to protect ourselves. A lot of people would want to hurt us you know.
MEGAN- I'm sorry... My name is Megan
REBI- Well Megan, you are much prettier when you aren?t sobbing over nothing. So come on little girl, follow me.
REBI leads MEGAN through the Labyrinth. After awhile MEGAN realizes that the FAIRY seems to no longer know her way.
MEGAN- Do you know where Toby is?
REBI- No, but I am certain that we will meet someone who can help or find him ourselves if we continue on.
MEGAN- Really? People will help us?
REBI- Probably not, but fairies do have a good sense of direction, it is legendary.
MEGAN- If you say so?
9 EXT: LABYRINTH - DAY
MEGAN and REBI track through the mist maze. Unable to see the ground below or more than a few feet ahead of themselves, MEGAN steps very carefully. Occasionally she stumbles over an unseen rock or dip. Soon they come to a clearing with the sun shining and a giant fruit tree looms over a giant fountain. MEGAN goes to the tree and is about to pick one of the small neon blue fruit when a voice calls out to her.
Voice- Don't partake those fruit, they are explosive.
MEGAN- What?
One of the ripe fruits falls to the ground and thunders like a large popper with a flash. REBI looks in the direction of the fountain and sees a fish at the surface of the water.
REBI- Babbling fish? (spots the fish)?Thank you for the warning!
REBI flies over to the edge of the fountain and MEGAN follows and looks down into the water, a bright colored PURPLE FISH pops out of the water. It flutters its pink and yellow fins and speaks with plump lips and big green eyes.
FISH- My name is Olivia?
MEGAN- Thank you for warning me about he fruit. I didn?t know they would explode.
OLIVIA- Only the ripe ones do, the light green ones are safe to eat, but sour.
REBI- Hello, I'm Rebi and this is Megan. We are looking for her uncle who is lost in the Labyrinth.
MEGAN- I think he is going to the castle in the center of the Labyrinth. Can you help us?
OLIVIA- I don?t know my way through the Labyrinth; I have been trapped here in this fountain for a few years now.
MEGAN- Why are you here then?
OLIVIA- I was captured and put here by Jeniiy because of how colorful I am. I want to go back to the stream with my family.
MEGAN- You're alone like me then.
OLIVIA- Then you do know how I feel?
MEGAN- Yes.
REBI- Where is the stream?
OLIVIA- The water maze connects into the stream. The water maze is just beyond the next one.
REBI- Next maze? What one?
OLIVIA- Mirrors.
MEGAN- Mirrors??. How would I carry you, you breath water.
OLIVIA- hmmm! (looks up) Break off one of the cups from the fountain and you can carry me in it.
MEGAN- I'll try
MEGAN climbs up to the edge of the fountain and pulls with all her might to detach one of the cups. She struggles for awhile before giving up.
MEGAN- It won't come off!
OLIVIA- Try more, try! LIFT!
MEGAN- It won't just lift off.
MEGAN lifts on the cup and if just separates, flawlessly. She is surprised and falls back off the ledge dumping the water on herself and on ground. She then gets up and goes to the edge of the fountain and lowers the cup into the water, OLIVIA swims into it.
MEGAN- Cool!
OLIVIA- I'm ready!
REBI- Then let's go!
10 EXT: LABYRINTH - DAY
REBI leads MEGAN through the mirror maze. At the next maze, MEGAN releases OLIVIA into the canals of the water maze. MEGAN jumps into the water herself and begins swimming in the narrow channels behind the fish. The water is dark and warm surrounded by tall brick walls covered in moss. As they come to the end of the water maze a tall damn structure blocks the path out of the maze. It has an underwater opening, which OLIVIA leads MEGAN through.
11 INT: DAMN STRUCTURE - DAY
They rise up, inside a hollow in the structure. Two tunnels are in front of them.
MEGAN- Which one?
OLIVIA- I don?t know. I'll go check down this one and let you know.
Before MEGAN can say anything, OLIVIA has dived under the water and is swimming down the tunnel on the left and then it seals off behind her. The water in the room rises quickly and pushes MEGAN down the remaining tunnel.
12 EXT: DAMN STRUCTURE-REV. SIDE - DAY
REBI meets OLIVIA outside the damn. REBI soon realizes the MEGAN is gone when she doesn?t emerge behind OLIVIA.
REBI- She is gone!
OLIVIA- What, I was about to go back for her.
REBI- The labyrinth took her somewhere else.
OLIVIA- How do you know?
REBI- The path you came is sealed off! (pointing to the brick wall)
OLIVIA- Darn this labyrinth, always tricking people.
REBI- Well, the stream is just ahead. You can go and join your family upstream.
OLIVIA- I want to help find Megan.
REBI- I'll look for her and help her get out of the Labyrinth. I promise. You should go to your family.
OLIVIA- okay? I guess I'll see you later.
OLIVIA swims ahead to where the water maze opens into the stream and the next maze starts. REBI flutters high into the sky and scans the Labyrinth for any sign of MEGAN or TOBY.
She passes through two mazes and asks several different creatures if they have seen MEGAN or TOBY; no one has.
13 INT: TUNNEL - DAY
MEGAN is pulled with such force by the water that she is barely able to keep her head above it to get air. The tunnel plummets underground and dumps MEGAN into a cavern lake.
She rises coughing, swims to the shore and pulls herself out of the water. She is so tired that she falls asleep on the rocky shore. Phosphorescent plants dimly light the large cavern. MEGAN sleeps until a LITTLE MAN poking her with a fishing rod wakes her.
HOGGLE- Are you alive?
MEGAN- Of course I am!
HOGGLE- Well, Then how is the fishing today?
SHE rises to a sitting position and coughs up a bit of water and earth from her mouth.
MEGAN- Fishing? What?
HOGGLE- Are the fish biting?
MEGAN- No, thank goodness.
MEGAN looks over the STRANGE LITTLE MAN
HOGGLE- Oh, then I'll come back later.
He turns away
MEGAN stands up wearily and starts to follow the LITTLE MAN as he walks away from her.
MEGAN- Who are you?
HOGGLE- Hoggle and who are you? (not turning to her)
MEGAN- You're Hoggle! (raising voice in excitement)
HOGGLE- Yes, who are you? (still walking)
MEGAN- Megan... Hoggle, you knew my mother?
HOGGLE- Sarah? (turns quickly to MEGAN)
MEGAN nods and smiles faintly. HOGGLE blushes a little and looks closely at MEGAN
HOGGLE- Where is Sarah, your mum?
MEGAN- Out with my father on a date? Me and Toby where brought here?
HOGGLE- By Jeniiy.
MEGAN nods yes
HOGGLE- humph! Figures, she hates your mum. After what happened to Jareth she would want revenge on Sarah.
MEGAN- I need to find Toby, can you help me?
HOGGLE- Why Someone's always looking for that boy! Where is he, you think?
MEGAN- Somewhere else in the Labyrinth I guess. The Goblin Queen separated us, but I think he would go to the castle? Can you help me please?
HOGGLE- Sure, I owe it to yur mother, to help ye.
HOGGLE leads MEGAN out of the cavern. He walks beside her occasionally looking at her.
HOGGLE- How is your mother?
MEGAN- Good, she is happy, she has me and my father. She likes her job as a high school drama teacher. She loves the play?(mood shifts) She didn?t want me to read the book.
HOGGLE- Labyrinth?
MEGAN- She hid her copy, but I would find it and read it in secret. Tonight I had Toby read lines with me? We had pizza my mom ordered? She never orders pizza, she thinks it is bad for me?(thinking aloud) ?Who was the pizza girl?
HOGGLE- How were ye brought here?
MEGAN- I was reading lines.. I just said, "you have no power over me" and poof, she appeared and brought us here.
HOGGLE- Well, I'll help you, don't worry!
MEGAN- Thanks
HOGGLE- (muttering) You are so much likes her.
MEGAN- Huh?
HOGGLE- A lot of Mazes to go!
MEGAN- Yeah, I guess!
In the maze of junk and debris REBI finds a SHEEP DOG wandering around the mess looking for food. REBI tries to ask the DOG for directions, but of course gets no answer. The DOG prowls around and howls at the single tree in the junk maze with fruit growing on it. The DOG, for all its size is unable to reach the fruit that is only on the high branches. REBI loosens several of the apple-like fruits and they drop down to the ground where the DOG can get to them. The DOG happily eats its fill of the food and then follows the FAIRY.
REBI- Well, I suppose you shall be a welcome companion. I don't want to leave you here in this barren place.
REBI flutters along side the large animal into a clearing, which is actually an open forest area, before the next maze. The DOG seems to know his way after he is out of the Junk maze. He runs off through the trees to a small house in the middle of a lush tree circle. A giant door is cracked and the DOG runs barking and pushes at the door and goes inside. The ?owner? of the DOG soon comes out.
LUDO steps out of the house with a smile on his face. REBI is hesitant until she knows the intent of the giant.
REBI- So he was your dog?... I guess he just got lost.
LUDO- Lost?
REBI drops her defense and approaches the LARGE BEAST, LUDO.
REBI- Hello, my name is Rebi.
LUDO- Ludo...Friend.
REBI- Hi Ludo, is he your dog?
LUDO- Ambrosius, is Ludo's friend.
REBI realizes the sweet & yet unassuming quality of LUDO's mind and is kind to him.
REBI- Ludo, I am looking for a little girl named Megan, she is lost in the Labyrinth. Have you seen her?
LUDO thinks for a moment or two
LUDO- No
REBI- Oh... Thank you anyway!
LUDO- You're welcome.
Ludo turns to go inside and REBI calls out to him, LUDO turns back to her.
REBI- I wish Toby was here instead of at the castle.
LUDO recognizes the name and turns to REBI, excited
LUDO- Tow-bee.... Ree-bee , is Sawah friend?
REBI- Megan is Sarah?s daughter, I?m looking for her.
LUDO- No Sawah?
Poor LUDO's emotions sink, when he doesn't soon see SARAH
REBI- She is at home.
LUDO- Oh ... Ludo help you find May-gon and Tow-bee.
REBI- Thank you.
LUDO looks down at Ambrosius
LUDO- Ambrosius, Sawah friend
REBI cracks a smile, she realizes the trouble she is in with this sweet, STUPID BEAST.
In CASTLE. The GOBLIN QUEEN goes into a full production musical song and dance about how great a magician she is with god like powers. The GOBLINS join in. JENIIY has brought TOBY to the CASTLE and caste a spell on him.
JENIIY- Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? ME!!
-SONG-
At some points in the song TOBY chimes in with the GOBLINS in singing about how lovely the QUEEN is. Soon her vanity weakens her spell on TOBY and he sees who she truly is. Her purple streaked hair, mismatched eyes and looks are far less attractive than the spell?s extraneous illusion.
TOBY- You are evil!
JENIIY- So my spell is weakening... Well what do you think of me? Aren't I beautiful?
TOBY- You are so... (lost for words)
JENIIY- This is how I truly am. Do I startle you?
TOBY- I don't what to give you that satisfaction.
JENIIY- Oh really (feeling flattered)
TOBY- But I think you would be startled if you had to see yourself in the mirror in the morning.
JENIIY realizes his insult and is fumed.
TOBY- I want to find Megan and get out of your stupid Labyrinth!
JENIIY- THEN GO AND DIE!
JENIIY waves her hand and sends TOBY to a LAVA FLOW MAZE. Bits of land float on the lava and through channels. TOBY begins to hop from float to float, through the maze.
TOBY- Women! They hate the truth.
At that remark spouts burst up from the lava nearly burning TOBY as he makes a jump. The spouts continue then after to randomly shoot up from the lava. TOBY uses his intuition to guide him through the deadly maze.
TOBY- (to self) I guess she is sensitive about her looks.
INT: SHINY ICE CAVES- DAY
MEGAN and HOGGLE continue through the mazes. The temperature inside the ice maze is expectedly cold and with damp clothes MEGAN is freezing. Her lips are turning blue and her face is growing white. HOGGLE though is little affected and keeps marching ahead. MEGAN drags on, she must find TOBY.
HOGGLE- Don't let the cold bother you lass. Jest think of 'em nice warm days on a tropical beach some where. Yur toes in the sand and the sun shinin? dun on yer face.
MEGAN-(teeth chattering) I can?t Hoggle.
HOGGLE- Sure ye can, just try. You gotta' keep walkin' on 'till ye find Toby. He may be at the castle just waitin' for ya.
MEGAN- I hope so.
HOGGLE- Well come'n we best keep on movin' lass. We'll be outta' here in no time at all. Just follow yer friend Hoggle, cause he knows the way through the Labyrinth.... I know lets try singin? a song to keep ye mind off the cold. You know the Little man in the Forest song?
MEGAN- Yes.
HOGGLE and MEGAN - sing-

The Cold finally takes its toll on MEGAN and she collapses. HOGGLE continues some of the song before he realizes her situation.

HOGGLE turns and runs to MEGAN
HOGGLE looks down at MEGAN who is still and white as a china doll with blue lips. He becomes very scared that she will die and begins to cry out for help.
HOGGLE- Someone please help her! She is just a child, Megan is just a child!
HOGGLE begins to morn for MEGAN?s impending death. Then a fuchsia light appears in the wall across from Hoggle and MEGAN and the GOBLIN QUEEN walks from out of the ice wall.
HOGGLE- What do you want?
JENIIY- I?ve come to her aid.
HOGGLE- You don't want to help anyone, you destroy innocence and good.
JENIIY- As we speak her body is freezing, she?ll soon be a frozen dinner.
HOGGLE- And will you help her?
JENIIY- I'll make a wager with you Hoggle.
HOGGLE- What?
JENIIY- I'll wake her, all warm and comfy if you win.
HOGGLE- And if I lose?
JENIIY- She'll remain asleep forever.
HOGGLE- What is your bet?
JENIIY- I wager that you cannot solve my riddle.
HOGGLE- What is it?
He looks down at MEGAN's still face, she is barely breathing.
JENIIY- I am a creature of many sailors tales, my horn the proof of my existence and the mystical creature. Who am I?
HOGGLE instantly feels he can solve that obvious riddle.
HOGGLE- Easy, you are talking about unicorns.
JENIIY laughs at having fooled the OLD DWARF
JENIIY- No, the correct answer is the Narwhal, the creature from who's horn came the tale of the Unicorn.
HOGGLE storms at having been fooled so easily.
JENIIY- You lose, now your dear child, Megan shall sleep forever.
HOGGLE- You tricked me! You are wicked!
JENIIY- Yes, I know!
She vanishes into a red mist
HOGGLE fumes at having been so easily fooled and kicks around the cave for awhile before calming down and realizing that he needs to still try to do something for MEGAN.
He grabs MEGAN's arms and drags her through the cave and out into the barrier garden. He puts her up on a stone bench and sits, trying to decide what he should do next.
REBI , LUDO and AMBROSIUS meet HOGGLE in the garden, as they come from another maze that intersects this one.
HOGGLE- So you are traveling the Labyrinth as well?
LUDO- Helping friend, Hoggle.
HOGGLE- That's nice... I wish my day were so good. The Queen put Sarah's daughter, Megan into eternal sleep.
REBI- Megan is here?
HOGGLE- Over there, (pointing) on the bench. She is under a powerful spell.
REBI goes to MEGAN, the others follow. REBI touches MEGAN?s cheeks and pulls back her hand in pain.
REBI- She is so cold, like death. What happened?
HOGGLE- She was still wet from the underground river where I found her and when we went through the ice caves she began to freeze and turn blue. Then she fell down asleep.
LUDO- Her frozen asleep?
REBI- She would die.
HOGGLE- The Queen appeared and dared me to solve a riddle to wake her. I lost and so she is asleep forever now.
REBI- At least not dead, sleep we can still fix.
HOGGLE- Fix?
REBI- Sleep is a spell that can be broken.
HOGGLE- By who? You?
REBI- I'm just a little garden fairy, I don't have any real magic.
LUDO- Fairy have magic.
REBI- I'll try.
REBI musters a bit of fairy dust and tosses it at MEGAN. It makes her sneeze and her cheeks blush as her body temperature rises a few degrees, but she doesn't wake up.
REBI- See, I don't have enough magic to help her. I barely did anything at all. Megan needs to get out of this Labyrinth and go home. We need to find Toby.
HOGGLE- We cannot leave ?er.
LUDO- I carry her.
LUDO bends down and picks up the girl in his massive arms and carries her ahead into the next maze.
REBI- Boy is he strong.
HOGGLE- Ludo is a good friend, even if he isn?t so bright.
REBI- My name is Rebi
HOGGLE- I'm Hoggle!.... Let's go find Toby.
Soon they arrive at the center of the Labyrinth where the white marble castle towers atop a small plateau with a bottomless gulch surrounding it on all sides. The travelers look for a bridge across the gulch, but see no way of circumvention.
They make camp on the edge of Labyrinth and wait for a path across to appear. REBI tries again to wake MEGAN with her fairy magic, and again only raises her temperature a little bit. She comes closer to consciousness by the FAIRY's efforts.
HOURS LATER, TOBY surprisingly shows up and meets EVERYONE and is made aware of his Niece's fate.
TOBY- I'm sure she can be woken and we?ll find away across the pit.
REBI- It is bottomless, legend says so. It stems from the despair of the Queen herself over the loss of her father.
TOBY- A pit of despair? ... Seems almost normal considering the rest of this place.
LUDO- Pit bad.
REBI- If you fall in, you?ll never hit bottom.
HOGGLE- You'll just falls forever.
TOBY- Sounds better than hitting bottom.
REBI- Perhaps, but there has to be away for you to get across we cannot see. I scouted all around it and seen nothing, but the goblins at the castle must leave by some means.
LUDO notices that MEGAN isn't lying on the ground across from the fire any longer.
LUDO- MAY-GON is gone.
TOBY- What! She's gone
HOGGLE- She's supposed to be asleep.
REBI- She must be sleep walking.
TOBY- Huh!
REBI flutters off in search of MEGAN. LUDO, TOBY and HOGGLE run after her, AMBROSIUS alerts them to where MEGAN is by barking.
THEY go up to the edge of the gulch and see that out in the middle of the air MEGAN walks across an INVISIBLE BRIDGE.
HOGGLE- How is she walking on the air?
REBI- She is on an invisible bridge, I think.
TOBY- It must be a spell she is under.
REBI- The Goblin Queen wouldn?t help her get across.
TOBY- Well, I must go get her.
TOBY tries to step out onto the bridge and nearly falls into the pit. LUDO, quickly grabs him by the shoulder and pulls him back.
LUDO- Toby will fall.
TOBY- Megan will fall!
LUDO- Ambrosius sees the bridge.
REBI- The dog sees it?
HOGGLE- Don't they see in black and white?
REBI- Ambrosius can see what we can?t, I guess!
LUDO- Ambrosius lead us.
AMBROSIUS quivers a bit then walks out onto the bridge and gets across to the other side with MEGAN.
REBI- Follow the dog!
TOBY, HOGGLE and LUDO follow AMBROSIUS across and see MEGAN trying to climb the walls of the plateau. She tries to lift herself up the steep walls but isn't strong enough to climb very high. Hoggle grabs Megan and orders her to sit down. She obeys.
TOBY and the others hike up the trail to the castle.
At the front doors to the castle TOBY looks up in awe of how huge the castle is.
TOBY- I guess we are soon on our way home now.
HOGGLE- You'll have to face the Queen alone.
REBI- I'll go with you.
TOBY- Thanks.... I think that I can handle it though.
LUDO- We wait for you.
HOGGLE- Hurry
LUDO- Go Too-Bee
TOBY- Hand me Megan, please.
LUDO hands over MEGAN to TOBY.
TOBY goes into the castle with MEGAN in his arms. He carries her down the halls that reach forty feet in the air and span fifteen feet wide and are long. The dim pink and purple walls are cold and suffocating. Shadows of goblins and beasts play across room, with echoes of low laughs ringing in TOBY's ears. TOBY begins to hear a beautiful voice coming from the lit room at the end of the hall. TOBY hurries down the hall and comes into the gallery.
There he sees drawings, paintings and sculptures that he had done filling the room. Grand chandeliers hang above sending down romantic light over the artwork. The sound of the GOBLIN QUEEN's voice is much closer, but he cannot see her in the room.
TOBY- Where are you witch? I know you are here! .... I have solved your Labyrinth, now send us home!
The GOBLIN QUEEN steps out from behind a sculpture and sings a song of enchantment to TOBY.
JENIIY- Put the child down Toby and dance with me. You know you want to dance with me.
TOBY- I want to go home!
JENIIY- (casting spell) Dance with me, Dance with me, you belong to me.
TOBY- Yes. I want to dance with you.
TOBY places MEGAN down on the ground and begins to dance with the QUEEN as she sings a song to him strengthening her spell on him.
As the song ends, REBI comes in and faces the QUEEN herself.
REBI- Let them go. They already solved your Labyrinth.
JENIIY- You defiant little fairy, go back to your garden.
REBI- I am not afraid of you.
JENIIY- You should be!
REBI- Why are you such a bully?
JENIIY- They are getting what they deserve!
REBI- For what? Megan isn't her mother nor Toby his sister. Your issue is with Sarah who hurt your father....What happened to him?
JENIIY- Sarah destroyed him!
REBI- Yes, I've heard this much, but how?
JENIIY- She turned the Labyrinth to chaos, the chaos destroyed him. The goblins defied him, and the Labyrinth ripped apart. I had to work hard to rebuild the Labyrinth. However the chaos remains and it won?t end until Sarah is destroyed. If I destroy her child and brother the chaos she left here will cease and my father will return from the gulch.
REBI- Jareth is in the gulch.
JENIIY- Falling forever, as long as the chaos exists.
REBI- There has to be another way to solve this.
JENIIY- There is no other way.
REBI- There must be.
JENIIY- There is NO OTHER WAY!
The QUEEN raises her hand and sends the troublesome fairy back to her garden at the edge of the Labyrinth.
REBI fumes and quickly flies back to the castle, like a missile.
REBI- I won't let Jeniiy hurt Megan or Toby.
As REBI flies back into the castle she sees JENIIY?s spell bubbles floating through the hallway of the castle. REBI doesn?t know what they are and flies past them. She flies back into the gallery where TOBY is sitting by the GOBLIN QUEEN and holding her hand and looking lovingly at her as she sings to him.
REBI- I told you to let them go!
JENIIY- (laugh) And what can you do?
REBI- Wanna mess with an angry fairy?
JENIIY- Am I supposed to be scared?
REBI flies up to TOBY and bites him on the arm. TOBY lets out a yelp and comes out of the spell. He looks confused at the QUEEN and leaps away from her. The QUEEN smiles slyly and stands up and slaps the FAIRY and knocks her out of the room and against a wall. TOBY looks around the gallery, at the reproductions of his works.
TOBY- Why do you have these?
JENIIY- I am your biggest fan.
TOBY- When would you have seen my artwork?
JENIIY- All the time, I have magic.
TOBY- Fine, you have played with us enough. Just send us home.
JENIIY- I am not done with you.
TOBY- What more do you want with us?
JENIIY- Everything.
TOBY- Oh I thought you wanted to destroy us. That is what you have been trying to do all the time.
JENIIY- Yes, it is.
TOBY- Well then? Are you going to do it or are you too chicken?
JENIIY- Chicken?
The GOBLIN QUEEN looks down at the red mark on TOBY?s arm.
JENIIY- You're fairy bite is becoming infected.
TOBY- It's fine!
JENIIY- I can heal it for you, if you stay here with me.
TOBY- I don't want to stay here with you. I'll suffer.... Send us home.
REBI wakes up and feels the large knot on the back of her head. She flutters back up and passes the bubbles again and then an idea strikes her. She goes along and pops every one of the bubbles. Spell after spell that the Queen had caste is broken..
In the spell on MEGAN, her mind is in a dream of herself as a teenager, about seventeen or eighteen. Megan is laying on a bed in funky tummy bearing clothes like the ones pop singers often wear in videos. She had finished painting her nails and is looking at music videos. She gets up and dances to the music and then her boyfriend comes into her room and she greets him and kisses him and they dance together. The camera angles purposely omit the face of the young man.
REBI finds the bubble with MEGAN inside and pops it. Just as REBI pops the bubble the face of the boyfriend is seen, it is TOBY.
MEGAN wakes up with a jolt and scans the room with alarm. She knows this place.
Megan sees all of TOBY's artworks there. TOBY and JENIIY argue and don't see her.
REBI comes to MEGAN and encourages her.
REBI- You have to find a way to defeat Jeniiy or she will destroy you and Toby in order to put the Labyrinth back together. Your mother, Sarah is the reason the Labyrinth is so volatile.
MEGAN- I dreamed this place.
REBI- What do you mean?
MEGAN- It's all a dream.
REBI- You just woke from a dream.
MEGAN- I imagined this gallery with Toby?s artwork in it. It is exactly like I imagined it, exactly.
REBI- There must be magic behind it all.
MEGAN- 'Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way...'
That's it... It's just a dream. Labyrinth isn't real.
MEGAN marches up to JENIIY and TOBY. TOBY is happy to see she is awake. The GOBLIN QUEEN frowns.
TOBY- The spell was broken.
MEGAN- Of course, spells are meant to be broken.
JENIIY- And I can recast them.
JENIIY makes a ball and holds it up, to threaten MEGAN.
MEGAN- Ah, but you have no power over me.
JENIIY's powers vanish and she is turned into her natural self, with mismatched eyes and purple locks. She screams in fury.
JENIIY- I am the Goblin Queen!
MEGAN- In my fairy tale book, my dreams, I created your world, as my mother shaped the Labyrinth before me. Your existence strives upon me.
JENIIY- We are akin, Megan.
MEGAN- No.... We are each other, the same.
TOBY is frightened. The GOBLIN QUEEN shifts again and she is a double of MEGAN dressed in fuchsia with the same mismatched eyes and streaked hair.
MEGAN- I dreamed this place in pieces as a get away from my life.
JENIIY- You want to be so much, you want to be a leader. You want to be grown up and beautiful. And in the end you are still just a child.
REBI- She is the true Queen of the Labyrinth.
JENIIY- You want to be me, strong and confident.
MEGAN- And because of this I put myself into chaos.
JENIIY changes back into her adult self. The symbol of the Ruler of the Labyrinth is placed upon MEGAN and she is dressed in garb similar to JENIIY?s, but tasteful to her age.
JENIIY- You still want to be me.
MEGAN- I will be some day... But why do you want to destroy me, really?
JENIIY- So I can be you, loved by so many. I am alone in this contrived fantasy world that is ripping at the seams. You used to be happy with things. A happy world of fairies, flowers, unicorns and beauty. Then you wanted to be grown up too soon and the world started to become ugly and tainted with grownup desires. Only you can restore it. You have to either grow up now or stay a child and progress into adulthood at its own time.
TOBY- Megan, don't turn into Jeniiy. You are just a little girl.
MEGAN- I'm not just a little girl, I'm ruler of my own destiny.
LUDO, HOGGLE and AMBROSIUS enter and see the situation unfold.
LUDO- Heal the Labyrinth, Megan.
HOGGLE- You are the Goblin Queen?
REBI- No, she is the Queen of the Labyrinth. Megan, you should only visit this world, you cannot live here. You need to go back home.
MEGAN- I have to fix things first.
MEGAN raises her hand and a bubble appears. MEGAN blows on it and it floats off, growing bigger and expands to envelop the entire Labyrinth world. JENIIY chimes in with MEGAN.
MEGAN/ JENIIY- I wish to be me, happy with who I am. I am a young woman, not yet an adult. I wish to grow up and beautiful in natures time. I am valuable for who I am and who I will be. I am smart and strong and worthy and me.
The Labyrinth morphs back to its original state of peace. The gulch is gone and the mazes are safe. The goblins are all softened and happy. JENIIY is again happy as her father, JARETH returns. JENIIY runs to her father?s arms and hugs him, crying with tears of joy.
JARETH- I missed you.
JENIIY- Daddy, I am so happy to see you again.
JARETH- Everything is so beautiful. I barely remember seeing how lovely the kingdom could be. Thank you Megan.
MEGAN- Sure, I should thank you for making me realize what I was doing to myself.
TOBY takes MEGAN?s hand and wryly smiles at her.
TOBY- Your imagination is something else, but can we go? Your mother may be home by now.
JARETH- Tell Sarah hello for me.
TOBY- Sure I guess.
MEGAN- I?m sure mom would be pleased to hear from all of you.
HOGGLE- Goodbye Megan!
LUDO- Bye, bye Mee-gon.
REBI- See you later!
MEGAN- Bye!
TOBY and MEGAN wake back in the house and MEGAN runs out of her room to TOBY who had fallen asleep on the couch. PINKY follows out behind MEGAN. TOBY opens his eyes and smiles at MEGAN.
TOBY- Did you have a pleasant nap?
MEGAN- Did you?
TOBY- Well, I'm glad the dream is over.
MEGAN- What did you dream about?
TOBY- I think it was the same one you had.
MEGAN- Really!
TOBY- Yes your highness. You are the Queen of the Labyrinth aren't you?
MEGAN- You remember? It was real?
TOBY- You have enough imagination to get me caught up in it. It was as real as dreams get.
MEGAN- The pizza girl was the Goblin Queen, Jeniiy.
TOBY- I know.....
MEGAN- Mom won?t believe this, it is great!
TOBY- Don't tell your mom, I doubt she would understand. She isn't quite the same anymore.
MEGAN- But I have to tell her hello from everyone.
TOBY- I'll tell her.
MEGAN- Okay!
TOBY- It's late, you need to go to bed. If your dad sees you up, you'll get in trouble.....Oh, and I?ll help you fix up your tree house tomorrow. I think you still have a lot of playing to do in it kiddo.
MEGAN smiles at TOBY, she isn't the least bit insulted at him calling her 'kiddo', in fact she takes it as a tender word of affection.
MEGAN- Okay, love you Toby.
She gives him a kiss on the cheek and he returns it.
TOBY- I love you too.
MEGAN- Don't let the goblins bite!
TOBY- Okay!
MEGAN hugs TOBY and she runs off to bed. Pinky, her Cat runs behind MEGAN to the room. TOBY sits back and turns on the television and laughs to himself.
30 INT: LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
TOBY is still smiling to himself when Sarah and Philip come home.
SARAH comes into the living room with her coat in her hand and grins at her brother.
SARAH- Did you and Megan have a good night?
TOBY- It was great!
SARAH- She didn't drive you up the wall? What is this pizza box doing here?
TOBY- We had pizza delivered.
SARAH- Megan shouldn't eat pizza , it's bad for her.
TOBY- She's fine now.... We read scenes from the Labyrinth and fought through the thunder storm.
SARAH- What storm?..... Wait, she had you read Labyrinth? I told her to leave that book alone.
TOBY- We read it and everything is fine.... Jareth, Ludo and Hoggle say hello.
SARAH stands still for several moments. She hasn?t heard those names in so long.
SARAH- Then you went into the Labyrinth?
TOBY- Yes!
SARAH- Really?
SARAH smiles at her BROTHER, believing him. SHE remembers her trip into the LABYRINTH years earlier.
TOBY- I didn't mean to startle you, but Megan solved the Labyrinth and fixed the turmoil of the Kingdom.
SARAH- Then she finally discovered her own power.
TOBY- yepp!
SARAH plops down beside her brother and hugs him.
SARAH- That is wonderful! I'm glad you made the trip with her.
TOBY hesitates in his answer, recalling what happened.
TOBY- I ...think I am too.
