FUTURE PEACE is attending a conference on Jungle ecosystems in South East Asia. The Conference is attended by regional scientists and polititions. The Regional Youth Representatives are also in attendence, including Aspire of China.
When members of FUTURE PEACE are about to exit the Conference, they are meet by prostesters of their presence. Polo turns to Aspire to ask why the people are objecting to them like this .
Aspire- The people are apart of a cult that beleives you are evil because ou were artificially created.
Polo- But what of the things, the good things we have done for people, including people of this region?
Aspire- They don't see it that way... There specific beleifs are to conclude that your artificial birth and powers are evil. But don't worry about it too much, they are a very small group, Polo.
[Polo looks out at the group of several dozen angry protestors and his spirits drop as he weaves past them with the others and the body gaurds pushing back the crowd. As they make their way to the bus, the protestors scream slurs at them. The thougt of who they really are plagues Polo's mind the rest of the night.
Polo goes to Fire and Tempo to speak to them about his concerns. Even the talk doesn't settle matters in the mind of Polo.]
[The next afternoon as Polo and the others pass the protestors, Polo stops at a young woman, about 20 years old with short dark hair wearing black and red with a red bandana around her head. She is shouting at him and the others and waving a anti-'jelly' banner. A gaurd urges Polo to keep moving ahead, but he refuses. He speaks to the young Chinease woman.]
Polo- Please, besides our powers and unusual births, how are we any more evil than you or anyone else!?
[The Woman gets a look of shock and then her face softens a bit but she is unable to answer Polo.]
Well tell me when you come up with a reason, I will be delighted to hear it then! (Polo then walks away with the gaurd and joins the others on the bus.)
[Later that evening while Polo and a few other of the PK's are spending time at a local park the young woman suprises Polo by trying to walk up toward him, where she is stoped by a gaurd. Polo sees this and goes up to her. The pretty young woman is scanned for weapons before she is allowed nearer to Polo. As she walks up to him she pulls her short hair from her face and weakly smiles at Polo....She is wearing a pair of jeans and blouse.]
Girl- I contemplated what you have siad for the past several hours and I have come to an answer.
Polo- Well, what then?
Girl- I have decided that the teaching of the naturalists are in error....Even though I still don't agree with the use of the "jelly formula" , it isn't your fault and you are not evil for it..... I am sorry.
Polo- How did you change your mind?
Girl- I put myself in your place...It is scary to think of all the people whoglorify you and the others, when in fact you should be felt pity for. Pity for all the responsibility and hopes placed in you. I'm sure you do not desire all the celebrity that is placed on you... You were breed and forced to be what you are.
Polo (interjects)- Well, I don't know that we were forced.... We are driven to do the things we do.
Girl- Haven't you ever just wanted to be a regular person?
Polo- Of course, but we have always been different, we have come to accept it as a fact...After the death of my sister Willimina, when the funding was pulled, we might have been left vulnerable and hurt or killed if not for the N.A.E. who had hidden us. Since then we have had a debt to repay.
