Activities Ideas for 1998-1999



· Equal Opportunity

Work to get sexual orientation a protected category from descrimination in the equal opportunity status and check on equivalence in benefits to all sexual orientations

· Rape Crisis

See that same sex rape is covered in the training for rape crisis center volunteers

· Writer's Forum

A gay poetry reading either by guest or my open mike.

· Bulletin Board for October

October is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual History month and the bulletin board would reflect this theme

· Rainbow Info Packet

A compilation of information on gay issues, etc. to be distributed along with condoms, dental dams, health dept, info at a table set up during an awareness week or during October

· Ribbons for Coming Out Day

To be worn and distributed on October 11th for National Coming Out Day

· Book Donation

Done just as last year. Use some club funds and also private donations to compile books to be donated in October to DeTamble Library.

· Programs

Some ideas include gay friendliness, what companies are gay-friendly employers and what areas of the country are more gay friendly.

· Culture Festival

Similar to last December's celebration which includes a party type atmosphere with special food and activities, music, and craft.

· Field Trips

Gay clubs, OutCharlotte, Myrtle Beach Pride Festival, Duke SEC 1999, rock climbing, hiking, bowling.

· Contact Area Universities

Contacts at Duke and ECU

· Play Production

A play to be open to the St. Andrews Community for casting and direction, produced by Family and Friends on a gay topic.

· Speakers

Heather's dad to discuss his experience as a man who was both married and a Presbyterian minister before realizing he is Gay, Dorothy Fillmore who is an alumnus who talks on the dynamics of a lesbian relationship, Jim Baumgartner who gives talks at local schools in New York on gay issues.

· Music Festival in Spring or Fall

This would involve bringing about three signed bands and perhaps some smaller bands from the area and artist on campus to play in a free concert outside.

· Parents with Aids

Find out about area parents who have aids and provide Christmas stockings

· Richmond Hospice

Contact the Hospice in Richmond County to find out if there are Aids patients there that we could possibly visit.

· Bring Health Dept.

Contact STD nurses at Scotland County Health Department and have them come and give a program on AIDS and STDs.
