When I got my Dakota, my Isuzu P'up had just blown its engine. It was a piece of crap. So My mother and I went to a few places car shopping. We ended up at Merrit-Williams Ford dealership in the used lot. I wanted to get a Different one at the time. I saw an Ext. cab V-6 that I prefered but they wanted too much for it. So my mom helped me get the red one with the I-4, a 5 speed transmition, aluminum rims with gray dodge hubcaps and the oversized 235-75-R15 tires. When I got it the person at the dealership gave me a CB radio and a white shell to go on it. I was told by the guy that sold me the truck that the engine had been rebored and that it had 5:11 gearing(which I later found out was 5:18). I got used to driving it and imediately put the shell on it. Then, the local "rednecks" taught me how to "play"; and that was it. I must have put that truck through hell. People thought that I had a V-6 in it as well as 4-wheel drive. My ego with my truck got big and I took the shell of because my friend told me that it looked stupid (he was right). I never unententionaly got stuck in "the pit" (the part of the student parking lot about one or two feet deep in sand). One afternoon I got in a wreck while playing around in the pit. I was hit at an angle by a Chevy S-10. The impact flatened one side of the bed wall and smahed out my tailight. The S-10 was totaled. I drove my truck home and installed a trailer light to use temporarily until I got it fixed. I drove it like this for about 2 months. Then, my mother helped me out and helped me buy a new bed which I changed out for the old one. The new bed was gold so I had to have a paint job. I took it to Sunny Hick's paint shop and he touched up the cab and painted the bed, and for a custom look I had him paint the mirror mounts and put custom decals on it. Then I bought the toolbox, used a bit, from a friend for $50 bucks; and a 102 inch antenna was given to me by my friend and neighbor Terry Standiford. I got tired of the dorky looking rims and hubcaps so I went and bought me a set of half-decent wheel covers and put them on it, then customized them with small confederate flags in the center. After saving for 5 months I was able to put a set of Sentry tires on it, and boy did they make it shine. Then one day I was looking through my deceased uncle's shed and I found an old hood ornament. I asked my aunt if I could have it and she let me. It turns out my uncle had recieved the ornament from my grandfather which had been a master mechanic for the Nash motor company. Not too long after that I put the ornament on my hood and it looked beautiful. The truck has alot to be done to her but so far, She is looking good;Of course I do have a wish list as well as plans not to far into the future for my lil' southern jezebel...
