Colours Entertainment Group, Inc. is in the process of opening an alternative nightclub in Greenville, NC. The proceeds from Jam '98 were donated to Colours in support of that effort.

We raised over $1000 for Colours at Jam 98! Thanks!

Colours will offer eastern NC an exciting, upbeat new spot for dancing, listening to live music, and playing pool. Since eastern NC now only offers one other spot for alternative nightlife, a new place is needed that can offer a superior location, a trendy atmosphere, and updated facilities. Colours' goal is to provide a safe atmosphere where all people can feel comfortable expressing themselves and having a good time.

Of course, the Colours group has encountered some resistance from the business community in Greenville. In March they attempted to get the permit needed to open the nightclub in downtown Greenville but were railroaded by Greenville's zoning board. Despite the fact that they met all the requirements for the permit and were just as eligible as all the other bars down on 5th Street, the board turned them down.

The Daily Reflector, Greenville's local newspaper reported comments by City Council member Chuck Autry just days before the hearing: "I think the city of Greenville has enough bars and dance clubs." Coupled with opposition from other downtown Greenville business owners, that was enough to sway the decision of the zoning board in favor of Colours' opponents. Colours lost about $7000 due to that decision.

The proceeds from Jam '98 will help them to recoup their losses and get back on track with getting Greenville's newest bar-to-be open! Thanks for your support, eastern NC!
