Magical Symbols
It's interesting to note that the majority of
magical symbols in this world are composed of
a few main shapes that are familiar to
everyone. Think about it. A Celtic cross is
nothing more than a circle around the
junction of the cross. Combine two triangles,
and you have a Star of David. With two ovals,
you can create a rough infinity symbol. An
oval and cross conjoined make an ankh. Even
the planetary symbols can be fashioned from a
few basic shapes!
Listed below are a few symbols that can be
combined with startling results and a few of
their influences (note that this list is
hardly all-inclusive):
Circle -- Perfection, infinity, the Sun, the
Full Moon, the Wheel of the Year, the cycle
of life and death.
Spiral -- Journey, evergrowing knowledge,
reunification with the God and Goddess.
Arrow -- Movement, the heavens or the earth
(depending on direction), strength.
Arc or Semicircle -- The horns of the Horned
God, the crescent moon, Cup of Life.
Cross -- The four directions, balance, Earth.
Oval -- Spirit, fullness, life.
Traingle -- Life, the Threefold Law, the
Three Ages of Man (childhood, maturity, old
age), ascending energies.
Pentacle -- Infinity, the Five Elements, the
Five Senses, the Macrocosm of Man, the
healing hand (five fingers = five
points).
You don't need to be an artist or a scholar
to make magical sigils. By combining these
symbols together, you can create some
interesting and powerful magical signs. Who
knew that those simple shapes you drew as a
child could hold so much power?
