"Societal Whispers" was another step forward for me, both in the recording process and in writing. My earliest songs, limited by my knowledge and equipment, were guitar/vox only. Then, with the 4-track I was able to add more instruments. Now, I've worked on take the focus off of just the rhythm guitar and placing an emphasis on various parts of the piece and how they interlock. This may sound like a duh-huh idea, but it all comes in developing. I'm proud of the orchestration of this record. I became a huge fan of giving the bass an equal voice in the melody of the song after working with Kevin Wright in both Loman and Aslan. He's got the skills as a bass player to really make the bass propell a song. And not with just your standard rhythmic bass line. I think the best example you'll find on the record is "It Would Be You." It's my favorite song from the recordings.
