Alexander James McLean

Alexander James McLean, also known widely as AJ and Bone, was born on January 9, 1978, which makes him a Capricorn. His parents' names are Denise and Bob McLean. But his parents divorced when he was four years old, so he is an only child. His mother, Denise, raised him. She still sometimes comes with the Boys while they're on tour.

AJ's acting talent first made its appearance in his first role: as Dopey in "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." By Grade 6 AJ had already acted in 27 productions, like "The Nutcracker," "The King and I" and "Fiddler on the Roof." When he was younger, he sang, had dance training and took acting classes. In high school, AJ won a part in "High Honey, I'm Home" by Nickelodeon and worked closely with Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel.

AJ's got many talents, some of which are singing (obviously), cartooning, ventriloquism, song writing, poetry writing, dancing, shooting pool, and he's a skilled puppeteer. He also likes to play basketball and volleyball.

This Backstreet Boy was one of the three original Boys, and he brings the funk to the group. You can hear many of his rap solos in the songs. But, besides the rapping, he has a beautiful singing voice, and he sings a lot of the solos found in the songs, as well as contributing to the harmonizing. AJ has written a song called "Tender Love" and it will probably be on their third album, due out sometime in October of '98.

AJ loves McDonald's food, Seinfeld, and chatting on the phone. He says he's not good with secrets. He also likes girls with long nails. His hair is something to watch for during their many appearances. He's gone from bald to blonde to red. He's also gone long and short, so keep watch.

AJ is a fun guy, as you can tell if you've seen their home video, "Backstreet's Back Behind the Scenes..." In that video he leads the viewer on a personal tour of the set that was built specially for the "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" video. It's a must-see! It also includes set footage of the music video for "As Long As You Love Me" and the beginning part of the "All I Have to Give" music video.
