Ewan McGregor is my absolute favorite actor. I've cried at his films and I've laughed till I was almost sick or spit out my Margarita. I love his incredibly varied roles, ranging from a "penniless poet" to a Jedi to a heroin addict to James Joyce. He's not afraid to be unflattering or daring, not to mention naked. But I also like what I know of Ewan as a person. As a friend of mine said, what you see is what you get.
The only problem is some of his movies are extremely hard to find here in the US. We were lucky to get "Nora" (in which he portrays James Joyce) on video and DVD this year. I believe it only had an extremely limited run last year. I know for sure it was shown at the Irish Film Festival in Boston, but other than that, maybe one or two other showings. It's a shame because the film is wonderful. The US is most likely not going to get the new "Young Adam" either. The US film industry (or maybe audience) is not quite as open as I wish it was. There are so many good movies coming out that don't get attention.
