Following the death of Charity’s father, William Hendrick and James Love sold interests in the estate (C-137, Rutherford NC) to their brother-in-law Thomas Wilson. Dated 6 Oct 1847, they sold "two separate tracts of land belonging to the estate of Charles Love, deceased." One tract was 102 1/2 acres and the other contained 78 acres. This transaction was witnessed by Richard Champion and D. Birchette.
William Hendrick died 24 May 1859 and is buried at Double Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery. Loose estate papers indicate that William Hendrick died indebted. As acting administrator, brother-in-law Thomas Wilson petitioned the courts to allow the sale of land holdings in order to pay both debt and settlement costs. The actually petition contains valuable information about the family. It states, “William Hendrick late of the County aforesaid departed this life on or about the 24 day of May 1859.” And then reads:
“Your petitioner further showeth that the intestate at the time of his death was seized and possessed in fee simple of a tract of land situated in said county adjoining the lands of George Thompson, Hamiliton Horne, W. L. Eskridge & others and containing three hundred and fifty six acres of the value of six dollars per acres, that he owns no other real estate, and that said land upon his death descended to his children Charles Hendrick, Polly Ann wife of Thomas Wilson, Nancy wife of H.
