Born 19 Nov 1852, Dovie married 21 Jul 1869 Hiram Burris in Stanly County NC. Born 14 Jan 1852, Hiram is the son of Joshua Allen and Mary Whitley Burris. Hiram Burris died 2 Mar 1910 and is buried at Love’s Grove UMC. His wife Dovey Love Burris died 19 Jul 1926 and is also buried at Love’s Grove UMC.The children of Hiram and Dovie Love Burris are:
A. George Henderson Burris Known affectionately as “Little Pa,” George H. Burris married 28 Feb 1895 Magelene Whitley in Stanly County. Born 14 Feb 1872, George Burris was a good hearted man who helped out his neighbors and even paid for the burial of many whose families could not afford proper funeral home services. Living to a ripe 101 years of age, George Burris died 11 Aug 1968. He is buried at Love’s Grove UMC.
B. Jonah Allen Burris Born 29 Sep 1873, Jonah married Cora Ida Sell. She was born 19 Feb 1877. Jonah died 23 Mar 1938 and is buried at Love’s Grove UMC. Cora died 19 Feb 1977. C. Thomas P. Love
Born ca. 1858, Thomas married first 19 Dec 1878 Mattie M. Cook, daughter of William and Mary Ann Cook. On the Cabarrus County marriage license, Thomas declared that his parents were Henderson and Elizabeth Love. In 1880, Thomas and wife are enumerated in Bethel, Cabarrus County living near James M. Hagler.Mattie must have died young as dated 20 Apr 1899, Thomas P. Love married 20 Apr 1899 Lula Spanolia in Cabarrus County.
In 1880 the widow “Elizabeth Love” is enumerated newar her daughter Dovey and her husband Hiram Burris. Late in life, dated 19 Aug 1890, Elizabeth Taylor Love married Henderson’s first cousin Jonah Askew Love. Jonah had lost his first wife in 1875. Likely old friends, Jonah had also suffered through the war.
Jonah and wife “Betsy” were traveling home from chapel in a buggy with son John Ephraim Love following behind on horseback. The buggy lunged forward breaking Betsy’s neck. It has been told that she had always feared the horse. Elizabeth Taylor Love died on 7 May 1896. On 28 Jul 1901, Jonah A. Love applied for a pension for service in the civil war. In the application, Jonah’s doctor wrote: “Mr Love lost his right arm by a gun shot. He is almost entirely deaf and by reason of age he is very weak and feable.” Jonah died 14 Feb 1907 and is laid to rest at Love’s Chapel UMC beside Elizabeth Taylor Love and first wife Margaret Tyson Palmer Love.
