The 1860 Chester County SC Census lists 13 year old Henry Thomas as living at the home of 29 year old William Brakefield. Enumerated immediately after the household of William Brakefield is Mary Thomas, age 50. Also, William Brakefield's brother John is living nearby. Living at his house is Nealy Thomas age 9. I have found no listing for Henry Thomas in the 1850 Census.
William Brakefield served in CSA Co. E, 5th Reg SC. He died 15 Sep 1863 in Georgia. A month earlier and dated 24 Aug 1863, H. B. Thomas enlisted at Petersburg VA in the same unit as William Brakefield. Serving in CSA Co. E, 5th Reg SC, H. B. Thomas was killed in action at the Wilderness VA. There is no death date for Henry. Is this the Henry Thomas that was in 1860 as 13 years old and living beside Mary Thomas? Note that Henry enlisted late in the war. If he was 13 years old in 1860, then he would have been 16 in 1863. This would have been a good early age for him to enlist for war.
At this time, we have not found any further information that provides a clue as to Henry's relationship to our Thomas family.
