Whereas the said John Ingram dec’d by his last will and testament bearing date 26th day of Sept in the year 1787, which is duly recorded in Brunswick Co. Court amongst other things lent to the said Patience Ingram during her life or widowhood a considerable personal estate consisting of slaves & other personal property & directed that the same should be divided at the death of the said Patience between his seven children namely John, Mary, Sarah, Nancy, Betty, Patty, and Thomas & his grand daughter Elizabeth Gray Ingram & the said Patience being willing and desirous to Release to them the said John, Mary, Sarah, Nancy, Betty Patty & Thomas and the said Elizabeth Gray Ingram, all her the said Patience right in and to all the said slaves & personal property except five slaves (to wit) Solomon, Darcus, Jesse, Spencer & Nell & one bed & furniture & one sorrel horse named Prince & all her crop that she made last year which said five slaves, bed, horse & crop she wishes to reserve for her own use during her life.

Now this indenture witnesseth that the said Patience Ingram for and in consideration of the love and affection which she hath & doth bear towards the said John Ingram, Mary Love, Sarah Dameron, Nancy Lanier, Betty Meredith, Patty Clay & Thomas Ingram & Elizabeth Gray Ingram, as also the further consideration of five shillings by them, to her in hand paid before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt hereof she doth hereby acknowledge, she the said Patience Ingram remised, release & forever quited claim & by these presents doth remise, release, & forever quit claim unto the said John Ingram, Mary Love, Sarah Dameron, Nancy Lanier, Betty Meredith, Patty Clay & Thomas Ingram & Elizabeth Gray Ingram & their heirs all her the said Patiences right & interest in & to all the said slaves and other personal property (except the five slaves& other property herein before excepted) which was lent to her as aforesaid during her life or widowhood by her said late husband, John Ingram, and further that she the said Patience is willing and ready to deliver up the property to which she hath herein released her right, that the same may be divided between the said John, Mary, Sarah, Nancy, Betty, Patty, Thomas & Elizabeth Gray Ingram agreeably to the directions of the will of her said late husband Jno Ingram, dec’d.
