JACOB THOMAS

Jacob was born on 11 Jul 1823, the son of Annanias and Sarah Ross Thomas. He married on 3 Feb 1846 Hester Jane Holly. Bondsman was his brother David Thomas. Hester was born 27 Jun 1826, the daughter of William and Sallie Ross Holly.

According to the tax lists for Union County, Jacob first owned land in 1846. Taxed for 96 acres, he was listed as Jacob Thomas Jun in order to separate him from a nearby and older Jacob, who was the son of Benjamin Jr.

Dated 17 Oct 1853, Jacob Thomas purchased two tracts (48, Union) of land from his brother John R. Thomas. Witnesses were brothers Benjamin and Annanias. The total sum of 186 acres was situated on the Little Watery Branch and adjoining the lands of Jacob Gurley, John Beasley, Luke Sinclair, Thomas Brewer, and Dr. Bost. On 1 Oct 1884, Jacob and wife Hester, and A. H. Nance and wife Mary E. sold thirty-one acres (15-464, Union) to Elias Mills. Including a mill, the land was situated on the south side of Richardson's Creek and adjoined lands of John Simpson and Godwin lands.

In his Last Will and Testament written 4 Oct 1887, Jacob Thomas bequeathed all that he had to his wife Hester. He ordered that after her death the property should be sold, with proceeds being divided between the children. He named son William Hosea Thomas as Executor. Jacob died 27 Oct 1887 and is buried at the Edmond L. Davis Cemetery. In the 1900 census, Hester Thomas is living in the home of her son William Hosea Thomas. As recorded on her death certificate, Hester Holley Thomas died of old age on 18 Apr 1917. She was laid to rest beside her husband at "Davis Grove Cemetery". William Hosea Thomas, son and administrator of the estate, had one more task to complete. As per his father's will, William H.
