John Ingram Will

In the name of God amen I John Ingram of the County of Brunswick and parish of St. Andrews being weak in body but sound in mind and Memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament and first I resign my soul to God who Gave it in a hope of Salvation through Jesus Christ my lord at the resurrection of the just and as for my Worldly Goods I dispose of them as followeth [Item] I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Ingram After the decease of my loving wife Patience the land and plantation whereon I now live also two Negroes which he is now possessed of and ____ a Ginne & her increase also one horse one bed & furniture & two cows & calves to him & his heirs forever also I lend him the use of the plantation whereon my son Moses lived on During the natural life of my beloved wife Item I give and bequeath unto my six children John Mary Sarah Nancy Betty patty what Ive already Given them which they have now in their Possession to them and their heirs forever Item I give and bequeath unto my two grandsons Henry and Benjamin Ingram after my wifes dec’d the plantation whereon Father lived containing three hundred & forty nine acres to them and there heirs forever Item I gave and bequeath unto my three Grandchildren Henry Benjamin & Elizabeth Gray Ingram all the estate that I gave him the said Moses Ingram which he died possessed of to them there heirs forever But if the law should otherwise determine so that my grand daughter Elizabeth Gray Ingram Should be debard of her equal part of her fathers Estate my will is that she have an equal part of the Rest of my Estate hereafter devised with the rest of my children Item I lend unto my loving iwfe Patience the land and plantation whereon I now live with [all] the rest of my Estate not already bequeathed During her life or Widowhood & after the determination of the same to be Equally divided amongst my seven Children John Mary Sarah Nancy Betty patty & Thomas Ingram & my Grand Daughter Elizabeth Gray Ingram to them and their hairs forever; But nevertheless Should my Grand Daughter Elizabeth Gray Ingram have a part with her two brothers Henry & Benjamin to have an Equal part with her in this last Division and lastly Item I nominate and appoint John Ingram Thomas Ingram & Patience my loving wife my ____ & Executor of this my last will and testament In witness whereof Ive hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 26th day of Sep’tr 1786.

This last will and Testament of John Ingram Senr Dec’d was proved according to law by the oaths of Joseph Lyell and Sam’l Kelly two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded & on the Motion of John & Thomas Ingram two of the executors therein named whom a do Oath thereto and together with John clayton & Thomas Lester their Securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of ten thousand pounds conditioned as the law directs certificate as granted them for obtaining a probate therof in due form
