Dear Elizabeth,
I embrace the opportunity ti drop you a few lines. We are all well at the present and I do hope when this comes to hand it may find you and them sweet little children well and doing well. I will say to you that Thomas requested me to write to you to let you know that he was gone to the army. He started last Thursday morning 3 hours before day. He would of started sooner only Calvin Sharp couldn't get ready sooner. He hated to go by himself so far. He has gone to Vicksburg, Mississippi. Elizabeth, I would be glad to see you and the children. You don't know how bad I want to see my babies. I dream of having them in my arms, of seeing them come. I hope the time will soon come when Thomas can get home and stay with you and the children. He talked a great deal about them and you. I want you to take good care of the children and yourself too. Jane, you said you would be glad when Thomas was gone. You had better wished he could of stayed to of took care of Elizabeth and the children. Then you would not be pestered with the sight of him. I hope it won't be long until he can take them away from about you for if you don't like Thomas you don't like the children. You don't know how soon you may to leave your young one. Elizabeth, I baked pies and biscuits, sweet breads and and boiled ham and chicken plenty to do him there and more too if he don't meet with no bad luck. I knit him a cap. We have a new fashion way of knitting caps here. They come all down over the neck and half way over the face. All knit in one piece, they fit complete as you ever saw anything. Write to me soon. I want to hear from you bad. If you are not able to get some of the rest to write. Fail not. The conscript taking the men from 18,45. I don't know what is to become of the people all slave. It is the opinion of the people that peace will be made soon. Write all the news you have. Amanda says tell Adalee and Sis she wants to see them bad. We are going to come after a while. If peace is not made soon you may look for us. Nothing more at the present.
