You wrote me about the Yankees. I forgot to write my heart was so full of trouble. They were on the mountain. A good many of them. They broke some people up on the mountain and in Wills Valley. They dug 3 hills of sweet potatoes from Mary. They acted very civil. That was all they done to her. They just come as far as old Emory Sharp's and went back to Will's Valley. The negroes are all going to them here. They ride down about Alpine very often. Get horses and negroes. Perkins has sold out on the mountain. He got a hundred dollars for it. He rented the place you left. We all live together. Perkins is in Perry County Alabama 2 hundred miles from here. Our soldiers took all of Mary's corn and someone killed all of her hogs but 3 and they were small. All to buy and hard to get. Hard times here and mores a coming. I am afeared thre will be many that will suffer for bread. Write how you are a getting along and if you have wrote to his command or not to see if there is anything coming to him or not. His command is in Dalton Geo. I would write if I was you. You know that you will need it. Did it ever send you any money from Mississippi or not. I know he did send me but 50 dollars and you will get it. If I should drop off before you get it, Mr. Cunningham will see that you get it. Mary Ann Howard was married last week to Mr. Grubs. Mary sends her best love to you and the children. Kiss the children for her and me. She talks about them often. She wants to see them bad. No more at present. I remain your.
