Mathew Greene Thomas was born in 1813. He married Molcy Williams. She is the daughter of William and Lydia Bivens Williams. Mathew and Molcy lived in a two story, nine room house near New Home Church in upper Anson County. Their farm boasted of 1000 acres and five small tenant houses. Mathew Greene Thomas died in 1864. As was written in the local paper, "upper Anson County has lost one of its leading citizens in the death of Mathew Greene Thomas, a farmer, merchant and Christian Gentleman. He leaves behind a wife and loving family". Living until 1904, Molcy was buried beside her husband near New Home Methodist Church. Their daughter Ellei lived in the house until it was tragically destroyed by fire in 1925.

B. Emaline Thomas b. 11 Jun 1845 d. 1852. The first daughter of Mathew Greene and Molcy Thomas, Emmaline was buried near her parents in the family plot at New Home Methodist Church.
C. James M. Thomas b. Dec 1843 d. 18 Nov 1930 bur Hopewell, married Margaret Dunn b. Aug 1868. James M. enlisted CSA Co. H, 43rd Reg. NC on 1 Feb 1865 at Camp Rhodes. His 6 Jul 1903 pension request states that he enlisted 15 May 1862. He was present until captured 3 Apr 1865 at Petersburg VA. James was confined at Point Lookout MD until his release on 21 Jan 1865.
