WINSTON-SALEM, N. C.

                                                            April 8, 1948.

My dear Mr. Love,

With this I am sending the transcript from the Administration
ledger for which you asked, and I am adding a tracing of the part
of the map of Wachovia which shows the Love tract of 402 acres.
One item in the transcript may need a word of explanation. When
The Moravian Church bought the Wachovia Tract from Lord Granville
In 1753 the terms were those then usual, a down payment and a per-
Perpetual Quit Rent. To save the Church from loss all early sales
Provided that the purchaser must pay a proportionate share of this
Quit Rent. After the Moravian Church had bought the Quit Rent title
from the heir of Lord Granville it became possible to sell in turn
to those who had bought with the Quit Rent provision in the deed.
It may also be noted that for many years after the United States
and the individual states began to issue paper currency the Moravian
congregation accounts were still kept in the English pounds sterling,
as that was much more stable in value, and more easily handled in
the transactions with Pennsylvania, England, and Germany.
The amount of time which this work required brings the charge to
Five Dollars.

                    Yours sincerely,
                     Adelaide L. Fries
