One of my great loves is that of music. In college I recieved my music minor in saxophone performance. As well as saxophone, I play the bass, and some guitar. Since my main work has been on bass and sax for the past three years, my guitar skills have declined. I have played in NC State's marching band, jazz band, wind enseamble, pep band, and concert band. I have also worked with other musicians over time. My current running bands are After-Hours Jazz Combo, and The Bottom Dollar. Bottom Dollar has been playing at private functions as well as at Ruckus Pizza about once a month.
In addition to being a performer, I enjoy a multitude of musical influences. Jazz music has been a great influence since high school. I enjoy both listening and playing swing, latin, and bop, as well as other forms of this great genera of music. In addition to jazz I listen to classical, some pop though most of it is from the eighties, rock, and metal. In the past few years metal has impressed me a great deal. I do not speak of bands that are on the radio, but of progressive rock/metal bands which are here and there. Of these I am currently listening to Dream Theater, Nightwish , Pain of Salvation, Blind Guardian, and Rush.
The closest thing to a "pop" band that I listen too is Squeezetoy.
Chris Richardson (drummer of Afterhours) and I are beginning work on a prog-rock project. Between the two of us we can play most things, so we're going to get our material written, and call in the other musicians once it is finished. I am really excited to finally start working on this, and look forward to see where it goes.
