Chapter 6

For the next two days Zac and I took turns carefully following Tara around. At first she wasn't doing anything worth watching...but then, on the second day during my *shift* we had a HUGE breakthrough.

=flashback=

"This is sooo not working!" Tara exclaimed to her friend, Abby. "Julie isn't talking! How is he supposed to find out if she doesn't blab?"

"Why don't you go over to the Hanson's house and tell Zac? Act like he's the only person you could turn to. He'll either tell Alison or Taylor. And even if he tells Alison, she'll tell Taylor herself. I mean maybe your plan isn't a bummer after all." Abby said,

"Maybe you're right." Tara said, "I'm going to go talk to Zac. I'll have to work on my fake cry on the way over so that i have it perfect. I'll call you when I get home."

I moved back behind a bush until after Tara passed me. Then I rushed off to find a pay phone....I had to tell Zac. I mean if Tara was going to the Hanson house I couldn't very well follow her inside, but since she was going to talk to Zac I could at least warn him....

*RING RING*

"Hello?"

"Zac! It's Ali."

"Hey, what's up?"

"Tara is headed to your house to talk to you about whatever her problem is! I just wanted to warn you."

"Ok, I'll cover it. Then I'll come over after she leaves to fill you in."

*****

*DING DONG*

I rushed down to get the door, "I'll get it!" I screamed.

I opened the door to find Zac standing there. He came in and followed me up to my room.

"What happened?" I asked.

"She told me that she's pregnant...with Taylor's baby."

"What?!?!" I exclaimed, "You have got to be kidding me."

"Sadly, I'm not. I'm sure she's lying though. Remember how after she talked to Julie she stopped crying and told her friend that Julie fell for it? She gotta be making all this up."

"But why?"

"I don't know. Probably to get attention." Zac pointed out.

"That's why she told you...she expects you to tell Taylor. I think she just wants to get him back...for whatever reason." I said.

"You're probably right. So we'll have to tell Taylor the truth and not what she's saying."

"The truth about what?" a voice said from the doorway.

We turned to see Taylor standing in my room.

"How did you get in here?" I demanded.

"Your mom let me in. Why are you guys acting so weird? You've been acting kinda sneaky the past couple days." Taylor asked.

Zac and I exchanged a glance. "We've been....um...following Tara around." Zac said looking down.

"Why in the hell have you been following her around? Can't we just forget about the whole Tara thing?"

"I don't think that's possible. Tay, you may want to sit down for this one." I said.
