I have 21 years of experience in Information Systems, including 16 years in management or as an independent businessperson. My area of special expertise is PC and client/server networking, including extensive experience with UNIX (Irix, Linux, Solaris, BSDI, HP/UX. and AIX), network and systems security, Microsoft Windows (most versions), TCP/IP, Novell Netware, and OS/2. In 1998 I helped lead the design and implementation of a large scale web hosting environment for approximately 30,000 sites, and have extensive Internet and intranet experience over the past six years. I have designed, installed, configured, and administered small and medium-sized networks (up to 600 users, with an additional 3,000 remote e-mail users). I have also done international technical marketing of an Internet-based system supporting a freight transportation company.

Part of the team supporting the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency. Wrote agency-wide Standard Configuration Document for Red Hat Linux, which sets configuration and security standards for all Linux systems at the EPA. Provided technical assistance to ageny systems administrators around the country and gave presentations on Linux, Irix, and security to the national systems administrators monthly teleconference. Systems administration of 41 Silicon Graphics Irix, Red Hat Linux, and Solaris systems. Implemented security standards to harden the SGI Irix and Linux systems after an intrusion into the EPA network and certified that the systems met the new EPA standards. UNIX shell and PERL scripting to automate system administration and monitoring tasks.

Network and system consulting, as well as systems integration and conversion services utilizing the Linux operating system. Installed and tested a Linux based firewall solution for a large, Atlanta-based accounting and finance application service provider (ASP). Conducted extensive security audit and wrote security recommendations and specifications, which were implemented by myself and the customer's IT staff.

Creation of virtual servers and configuration of a web hosting environment for several small businesses and nonprofit organizations in a Linux environment. Design of web sites including HTML, Java, and Perl coding, database maintenance, graphic design and layout. Writing and editing of marketing and sales texts. I continue to host and maintain several sites.

Senior Systems Network Engineer

Responsible for support and administration of a large, heterogeneous network including Windows NT 4.0, Novell IntraNetware 4.11, and AIX servers in a mixed Token Ring and fast Ethernet environment. Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of network and server issues. Planned and performed project management functions for server and network infrastructure upgrades, as well as hands-on implementation of the planned changes. Performed security audit of CheckPoint Firewall-1 on a Sun UltraSPARC and implemented changes to tighten network security. Audited web server security. Configured Microsoft Proxy Server and client to control internet access. Audited server software and firmware for Y2K compliance and installed necessry upgrades. Installed, configured, and tested Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0, and participated in it's successful implementation. Designed SMS reports using provided Crystal Reports tool. Installed and configured Microsoft RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Server) and a Netgear modem router for an inexpensive, short term connectivity solution for a remote warehouse location. Documented new network procedures and existing systems. Hardware supported included Cisco routers, Bay Networks switches and hubs, Compaq and IBM NetFinity x86-based servers, and IBM RS-6000 servers.

Lead engineer responsible for research, development, and design of client and internal systems and networks. Co-leader of Windows NT Web Hosting Infrastructure Design team, tasked with selection of server and related hardware and software, and design implementation of the new environment.

UNIX and Windows NT 4.0 network and system administration for an internet consulting division serving Fortune 1000 clients. Designed and implemented NT domain architecture and security for division. Network engineering and design, troubleshooting, maintenance, and administration of approximately 40 UNIX (Sun Solaris and BSDI) and Windows NT servers as part of the Network Operations group. Evaluated network and internet products, including firewall software and content server software. Installed the division's first Lotus Domino server and Notes clients. HTML coding and Verity search engine scripting for various clients' web sites. Installation and customization of Netscape Enterprise servers, MS Internet Information Server, Lotus Domino 4.6a server and Notes clients, and Verity Search '97 search engine. Installation of Windows NT Server and related software. Extensive utilization of Open Source software, including SAMBA for file sharing between NT and UNIX based systems, and enterprise-wide backup using Amanda software.

Originally hired by TriNet Services Inc. to fill the role of Network Operations Manager, a position which was eliminated by the merger with Interpath Communications.

Proposed, planned, and successfully implemented International Technology Initiative, a project which included redesign and updating of corporate WAN and networking infrastructure, establishing EDI links with our customers for purchase order, invoice, and packing list information, and establishing a first-time presence on the Internet, including corporate e-mail (both internal and external), web page, and a freight forwarding industry-first shipment and inventory tracking system with queries based upon customer references or purchase order numbers rather than airwaybill or tracking numbers. Designed query screens to our Informix database, running under HP/UX, which were implemented by outsource programming firm, and contracted for and participated in graphic design of our web page. Visited customers in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia for the purpose of introducing our system after implementation, and providing technical assistance for integration. System was implemented and customers on-line within five months of inception of the initiative. Directed training of sales force. Responsible for technical marketing, and refinement and improvement of system to better serve customer needs or meet specific customer requests. Project included the installation of three Windows NT 3.51 servers, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), and client software, and upgrade/maintenance of various models Hewlett Packard HP-9000 servers, including failover and load balancing.

Designed computerized forms which became industry-standard.
