The sun shone bright through my window early the next morning. I woke up with a yawn. I hardly got any sleep last night. Too busy thinking. That morning I was going to meet Nick over at the store down the street and then we were going to drive around. Yeah, we have to meet at the store because Nick can't pick me up at my house. I wish I could just tell my parents everything. That way me and Nick can actually date without me sneaking out. Your not 15 anymore....your going to be 17... Nick's right. I'm not 15 anymore. My parents can't tell me what I can and can't do. I'll tell them on my birthday. June 27. Only 4 days away. I remember for my 16th b-day Nick took me out on the water and we had dinner on his boat. It was so sweet. That day I had to tell my parents I was spending the night at Heather's for my birthday. I actually did, I went over there around 10 or something. Well, enough down memory lane, I have to get ready. I left my house around 11:30 and walked down to the corner where Nick is supposed to be. He was sitting on a bench out front.
"Hey Nicky," I said while messing up his perfect hair.
"Don't touch the hair. It was perfect," he said while fixing his hair.
"Ready to go?"
"Yeah," Nick said while finishing his hair.
We walked to hid car where he opened my door for me. He still does that after almost 2 years. Wow. 2 years we've been seeing each other. I got in and we were off. We drove around Tampa for a while and then we went and sat on the beach. Nick and I talked for awhile.
"Nick, I'm going to tell my parents that we are seeing each other."
"You are?"
"Yeah, last night I thought about it and decided not to, but this morning I knew I had to. I'm going to tell them on my birthday."
" Good for you. I'm gald. This way I can pick you up at your house."
I laughed. " Yeah, hopefully they realize that I'm not 15 anymore."
" I think they know your not 15 anymore. Just look at you."
"Nick!!!" I knew what he was talking about. "Your so sick."
"What? I didn't say anything."
"Sure Nicky boy. Whatever you say."
We sat there together in each others arms for hours. It felt so nice for Nick to hold me. When we did leave, I had Nick drop me off at the store and I walked home. Four more days and I would tell my parents everything. Just four more days.
Four days later........
Today is the day. I turn 17 and I tell my folks everything. Heather was talking me out shopping as her birthday gift to me. I can't complain, it's shopping, even though I knew about it a week ahead of time. After that, she was going to drop me off at Nick's and he had something planned for me. Then Nick and I were going to go back to my house and tell them everything. Today was going to be fun. Heather picked me up at about noon and we were off to the mall. I brought some money just in case I need some extra. First we went into Banana Republic and tried on some summer dresses.
"Here Lisa. Try this on," Heather said handing me a light blue dress with some butterflies on it.
"Cute," I said and went and tried it on.
"It fits, but is way too expensive Heather."
"I don't care. This is my birthday gift to you."
"All right. I want it then."
"So will Nick."
"Heather!"
She paid for that and we went around the mall. We got our pictures taken at Claire's for fun, ate lunch, and shopped a bit more. In the end, I bought the dress, a necklace, and some hair clips. Heather got a bracelet and some hair clips too. Now it was off to Nick's house. It was about 3 when we got there. Only 2 hours in the mall. That was a first. I thanked Heather for the dress and the ride. She was going to take my stuff back to her house and I was going to get it tomorrow. I didn't want to carry all this stuff around with Nick. I ran up to his door and rang the doorbell. Leslie opened the door.
"Hey, happy birthday, come on in," she said.
I got pretty close with Nick's sisters and brother over the past 2 years.
"Thanks."
"Nick's upstairs, I'll go get him."
She ran upstairs and got Nick. Before we left I got a few more "Happy Birthday's." My favorite was from Nick. And I got a kiss out of it. We went out to Nick's car and he opened the door for me again. Such a gentlemen.
"So, did you have fun with Heather today?"
"Yeah. I bought a new dress and some other stuff. Heather took it back to her house."
"Oh. So, are you ready to have some fun?"
"You bet. Where are we going?"
"Disney World."
"We're going to Disney World? Cool."
Nick laughed. We spent about 3 hours in there and then we got back in his car.
"Okay, I'm going to blindfold you, all right?"
"No, but I guess I have no choice right?"
"Exactly."
Nick blindfolded me and I kept asking him where we were going, but he wouldn't tell me.
"Please, just tell me Nick."
"We're almost there. Calm down."
"I'm have this thing over my eyes, it's dark and I have no clue where we are going and you expect me to be calm? Ha!"
"Okay, we're here. Stay here okay? Don't take it off yet."
Nick got out of the car and was gone for a few minutes. He came back and opened up the door for me. He helped me out and took off the blindfold.
"Oh my gosh," I said.
We were at the park and there was one little spot where it had balloons tied to trees. There was a blanket on the ground and it was so pretty. We walked over there and sat down on the blanket. Nick had a little birthday cake and box there. Plus a picnic basket.
"When we were at Disney Land, Brian came down here and set it all up."
"Thank you Nick.....and Brian."
"Brian's actually over there," he said and pointed to a car nearby.
"Hold on. I'm going to tell his thank you. I'll be right back."
"Yeah."
I walked over to Brian and gave him a big hug and thank you.
"My pleasure," he said. "I had nothing to do today and Nick wanted me to help him do this so I said yes. How could I not?"
"Well, thank you Brian."
"Go back to Nick. He misses you."
"Yeah."
I walked over to Nick and sat down next to him. Nick made(well, actually his mom did) two salads, some chicken, and all this other stuff.
"That was really good Nick."
"Now time for your birthday cake."
Nick grabbed the cake and set it in front of me. He lit the candle, there was only one, and sang Happy Birthday to me. I was in awe. Nick had such a wonderful voice.
"Make a wish."
I made a wish.
"Nick, you have such a nice voice. Why didn't you tell me?"
"I don't know."
"Now you can sing to me."
"Oh I will. Here."
Nick handed me a box that was wrapped really nice. I opened it and it was a silver bracelet. It had Nick and Lisa engraved on it.
"Nick, it's beautiful." I gave Nick a hug and a kiss.
"Glad you like it."
Nick helped me put it on and then reached behind the tree for something.
"Here." Nick handed me a brown teddy bear. It was so adorable.
"Nick, you are so sweet."
" I try."
I laughed. Nick and I spent about 20 more minutes there talking and a little bit of kissing. Around eight we left for my house. Nick said Brian was going to clean up the stuff. Man, Brian sure is a good best friend. Nick pulled up to my house.
"Are you ready?" he asked me.
"Ready as I'll ever be."
Nick and I walked up to my house and went in. My parents were in the kitchen when we walked in.
"Mom, Dad, we need to talk."
"Were in here," my Dad said.
I asked Nick if he wanted to stay in the living room or come in with me. He said he wanted to come with me. We walked into the kitchen and my parents looked up. They seen Nick, but didn't say anything.
"Mom, Dad. I've been seeing Nick for the past two years."
"What?" they asked.
"I've been sneaking out of the house or telling you I was with Heather when I was really out with Nick."
My parents just looked at me. Nick was quiet.
"I thought we told you, you couldn't see him anymore?" my mom said.
"I know, but I've been seeing him anyway."
My mom started to speak, but I cut her off.
"I'm not 15 anymore Mom. You can't tell me what I can and can't do. And if I want to see Nick that's what I'm going to do."
"Oh, no your not. As long as you are living under my roof you are to do as you are told."
"Fine then. I'll move out."
"Where are you going to go?"
"I'll find a place. I don't need you telling me who I can date. I'm not a little girl. And if you think I'm going to listen, your wrong. I'm out of here."
I stood up and Nick and I left and went to his car.
" Lisa....you can't move out of your house."
"Well, if I stay here I'm never going to see you again. They won't let me leave the house."
"Where are you going to go?"
"Heather's. Her mom loves me like a daughter and I can stay there for the summer."
"And what about when school starts up again?"
"I'll move in back home. You'll be going off to college and I won't see you. They'll think you and I stopped dating."
" I don't know."
"Come on, let's get out of here."
Nick and I drove off. We went to Heather's and told her everything. Her mom was cool with having me stay there and so was Heather. They agreed as long as I go back home when school starts. I have the same rules as Heather does. Tomorrow we were all going back to my house and tell my parents, minus Nick.
The next day...
My parents didn't like the idea, but they knew I wasn't going to stay at home. I packed my clothes and a few things I would need. I put it in my car and went back to Heather's. I stayed in their guest room. I spent the day unpacking and talking with Heather. Over ther summer I ate dinner every night with them, except if Nick took me out. I dated Nick, did things with Heather and had a great time. Heather and I got closer and so did me and Nick. Summer went by quick. School was starting in a week and that meant I had to move in back home. Yippee. Nick went off to college and I started my senior year. I hardly talked to Nick, and when I did it was online. I don't talk to my parents, only when I need to and spend a lot of time at Heather's. My senior year went by so slow. I was happy when Heather and I graduated. We were done with high school. Finally. That meant I would be seeing Nick again. He would be home for the summer and I was going to the University of Florida with Nick next year. Heather was going out of state. I think to a little college in Maine. I was so happy I would be with Nick. And I could get out of my house. During the summer Nick and I saw each other. Not a lot, about once a week. I went out with him when my parents were at work. They would call once in awhile to see if I was home. If I wasn't home when they called, they would ask me about it that night. I would say I was sleeping or whatever. I did that for the whole summer. I turned 18 that summer and then I left for college. With Nick.
