A Short Story...

by fair maiden

As the traveler made his way through the door of the diner, amid the first sights he saw was a burly man, with coal black hair. He was standing behind the counter and seemed to be the manager, or perhaps even the owner of this place called Joe's? He motioned a waitress with a nod of his head, and she scurried off to seat the patron.

As the traveler accepted the gracious invitation at a near by table, he took inventory of his fellow diners. Among the crowd, he noticed no familiar faces, none. It felt strange entering a new place, his first thoughts were of his old hangout. The images of friends and the smells of the south almost consumed his memory, as the flashbacks continued. He wondered if this diner would be as friendly and warm as his last place in life? He wondered if he would be able to enter into their lives as he had entered into the lives of others back at Charlie's? (his old hangout)

He took his seat, and started to evaluate the people, the strangers around him. Sitting at the bar, there appeared to be a number of regulars. On their stools, were engraved names, in gold inlays...Perhaps a clue to those who occupied their seats. There among them were
cookiemaker, Capt Trips, rosie, Anna, Pelican Pants, King of Spon, 100% woman, pianogal45, hippy chic, Ryan30, Lady E, Lady Jara, S10, volleyball gal, tedy, dragonheart, ~Dream-Weaver, bluelady, manishboy, Friend,
and on the far end fair maiden.

He thinks to himself what odd names for these fellow patrons. He sat in wonder, either amazed or confused by the odd names on the stools. His mind wandering back to the days he'd spent at Charlie's. Among his old friends there was a Pete, Jason, Bill, Jarod, Harvey, but certainly no names as colorful as those in Joe's. He spied an antique jukebox in the corner, almost hidden from view. He wondered if it was a working jukebox, or just placed there for atmosphere. He would have to check it out later. The black and white tiled flooring was a quaint addition as well. He has decided to give this diner a try, and if you are wondering, how this traveler made out, stop by Joe's and look for fair maiden. Tell her the traveler sent you, and I'm sure you will get a heart warming welcome, just as the traveler did.

The end.....
