Handhelds Overview
- A. Various Tiger LCD Handhelds. These peaked in popularity in the mid 80's to early 90's. They often used innovations such as voice synthesis, or the unique design of 2 screen games. Many NES games were licensed to be converted to Tiger LCD Games.
- B. This is Head to Head Basketball from Coleco. Also known for their Cabbage Patch Dolls, Coleco was a leader in handhelds. They produced a successful set of miniature arcade tabletops before making the memorable Colecovision console.
- C. Game and Watch Donkey Kong by Nintendo. Game and Watches had a clock feature, there fore the watch in the name. Many famous Nintendo charachters made an appearance in G&W format. These were also typically very well designed, and Nintendo's notoriety ensures that these are always in demand.
- D. Cosmic Chase by Tomy
Before the Game Boy, there was still a demand for entertainment on the road. This was filled by compaines such as Tiger, Coleco, Tomy, Konami, and ironically Nintendo. These games were played on LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens, and did not use traditional sprites. However, this did not take away from the fun of portable gaming. Many of these games are still in demand today for their fun game design and for their attractive aesthetics as well.
