Gawain & Celes

In memory of TKCs Celes
(07/23/98 - 07/13/99)

A tragedy has struck The Circle. Gawain lost his lifetime mate, Celes on July 13, 1999, to what I believe, with opinions of many breeders more experienced than me, may have been a tumor. She was extremely large (though we 'grow' them large here!) and constantly looked pregnant. After checking the records of the litters she had there may have been some problems from the start. She only had 4 litters after many, many matings, the last of which was born in March.

I've left their page as it was before her death. Gawain is residing with his son, Spanky, who luckily was in the tank with them. After two weeks of seeming listless and not eating much, they have both recovered and are becoming their happy selves again. I will be starting a page for this unfortunately new pet pair soon.

Gawain was born on July 11, 1998, and I brought him home on August 22 after being shipped from Kate Potter to Elizabeth Heckert's in Delaware house for me to pick up. He quickly settled in at his new home with the rest of The Circle, and with a new "wife," Celes.

Gawain is a beautiful ColorPoint Slate (who we first thought was an UltraDark Burmese) who has quite an illustrious background - his "grandgerbs" were brought to the U.S. from England!

Celes was born as one of four of Litter #1 on July 28, 1998, to The Circle's Gavin & Brenna, a Dark Eyed Honey and a Dark Tailed White. This picture shows Celes and her siblings with their mom. Celes has always been one of my favorites and is a very pretty and extremely affectionate girl.

They've had four litters of pups, but there haven't been any since March, when she only had two. Hopefully she's not one of those females who goes into early "gerbipause," because she had some beautiful Siamese and Light ColorPoint Agouti kids! There's been a lot of mating going on since March, but no babies . . . :o). Perhaps they were stressed out from our move from Maryland, but come on now . . .! Guess we'll have to play the mating . . . er, I mean waiting, game with her.
