ACW rolled into Mocksville, NC for the second show on their ACW Reunion Tour 2001 and presented a solid show headlined by The Beastmaster Rick Link teaming with Brandi Wine against Jade and Ricky Morton, as well as a special appearance by Magnum TA. The legendary Ragin' Bull Manny Fernandez was another surprise guest, along with Bone Krusher Curtis, who at this event, became the first man to be inducted into the ACW Hall of Fame.
To start things off, a feud that had been brewing for a long time was blown off as "Maniac" Mike Rhodes defeated Sgt. Max Rhodes in a Loser Leaves ACW match. Mike, the younger brother, teamed with Max as The Lumberjacks during ACW's glory days, but when the team split, and Max went on to become well known as the Sarge, Mike became jealous and the seeds were planted for this sibling rivalry. The two brothers fought a fairly even contest until the seven-foot Granite came to the ring and chokeslamed both men. Both Rhodes brothers were knocked out, and a ruling was made that the first man to answer the ten count would win the match. Mike began to use referee Rusty Young to pull himself up from the mat, meanwhile, Sarge made it to his feet behind the ref's back, before collapsing again. Mike got to his feet and when Young turned around, Sarge was down, so Mike was ruled the winner.
Mental Disorders Psychos for Hire, who had been sitting in the crowd during the first match, approached the announce position where Commissioner Randolph Hedrick was seated, and demanded, as they had promised to do, that they be added to the card. The New Unholy Alliance of "Redd Hott" Tim Blaze and the "Carolina Kidd" Brian Cobb entered and got in the face of the PFH. Cobb suggested that the three-way-dance scheduled for later that night be made into a four-way, inviting PFH to attend. This did not sit well with Blaze, who said that the Psychos could have *their* spot, and attacked his former rival Cobb, leading to…
Tim Blaze defeated "Carolina Kidd" Brian Cobb. These two had a pretty good rivalry going last year in ECPW which looks to have started up again. Good work from both in this contest, which saw Kidd go for a top-rope cross bodyblock that was reversed by Blaze, who grabbed a handful of trunks for the one, two, three.
The mysterious Battle Kat was out next to take on Rob "the Bull" McBride in a chain match. Kat wore street clothes to the affair, which was a total brawl, spilling out to the outside several times. Kat controlled much of the contest, but McBride slipped in through the backdoor to win. As Battle Kat dragged McBride to all four corners, McBride was touching each corner also, and when McBride managed to touch the fourth corner post before Kat, he was declared the winner.
"Iceman" Joe Storm, the ACW Hardcore Champion, made his way to the ring to take on the Suburban Gangster, Heavy C, Corey Edsel. These two waged a very physical war, with Sideshow Phil, a member of the Flock and trainee of LA Wild One, serving as the special referee. Storm opened Edsel up early with several shots to the head with a steel chair, and then driving a cheese grater into his face, leaving an imprint of the shards that remained there well after the end of the show. Storm and Edsel battled throughout the building, even spilling out to the outside on one occasion. Both men were bloody and battling on the outside of the ring, when Storm, visibly upset over the terrible officiating job Sideshow was doing and frustrated at his inability to pin Edsel, stepped over the boundaries and took his aggressions out on HCFC leader Brad Stutts. Edsel was able to regain the upperhand in the ring and eventually put Storm down with the 3/4 standing moonsault to win his first major title. However, the reign would be short-lived, as and enraged Storm nailed Edsel in the back with a chair, leaving him wide open to receive a Twist of Fate from Sideshow, who removed his referee's shirt and tossed it to Rusty Young, who made a quick three count. Sideshow's reign would last even shorter, as Storm powerbombed him quickly to regain his title. The 24/7 rule that the WWF put into effect regarding *their* Hardcore title has apparently trickled down even to our very own ACW. Great brawl otherwise.
Psychos for Hire were up next in the three-way, taking on Sudden Impact and Capital Punishment. This was a physical match that saw Sudden Impact and Porter and Spade attempt to incapacitate PFH and then just have a regular tag match. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, and Bam Bam and the Crazyman ended up controlling much of the contest. The end came when the two Psychos hit their finisher, a tandem second rope splash (Crazyman is on the second rope and gets an assist from Bam Bam as he springs backwards onto the prone opponent) on Jack Spade, but Lumbee yanked Crazyman off of Spade and stole the cover to capture the ACW Tag Team titles. After the match, the Psychos attacked Lumbee and Slick Rick and stormed off with the belts.
The ACW Heavyweight Champion, LA Wild One made his way to the ring to defend the belt against Granite. Granite lumbered around and pounded on LA for much of the match, until he was put down by a fireball from Wild One to allow LA to retain his title. It was at this point that LA's tag partner, Rob the Bull McBride made his way to the ring and confronted LA about his openly "dirty" tactics, and LA responded by taking a swing at McBride, who ducked, but was eventually met with an LA fireball of his own. Beauty and The Beast apparently are no more.
In the main event, The Beastmaster Rick Link and Brandi Wine clashed with Ricky Morton and Jade in a mixed-tag match. The Beastmaster attacked Morton early and gained the upperhand, until the ladies were tagged in and it was all Jade. The female powerhouse dominated the experienced Brandi and was about to put her away when Link took advantage of the situation and took out Jade, rolling Brandi on top for the pinfall. A pull-apart broke out after the bout, with Morton challenging Link to a singles match for the next show on the ACW Reunion tour.
This was a really good night of wrestling action from Alternative Championship Wrestling, who look to be gaining momentum towards re-affirming themselves as a top indy in the area again.
