Southern Championship Wrestling returned to Kings on Thursday night, June 28th and FINALLY the Hardcore Fan Club was able to attend. The event, dubbed Cyberwar featured the final three matches in a fan Internet tournament, where the fans vote on matches in the first three rounds but the semi finals and finals are determined in the ring at the show. This year's final four consisted of North Carolina Champion C.W. Anderson against Scab and SCW Heavyweight Champion Frank Parker against last year's tournament champion Lazarus.
We start things off with what is becoming the customary Sex, Love, and Money promo to open the show. They announce Shane Helms has had to pull out of the show due to WWF/WCW relaunch business and as a result, Cham Pain is left without a partner for the Loser Leaves Town match tonight against William Wealth's associates, Shannon Moore and Gotti. Wealth also introduces his new bodyguard 2 Damn Bad (shouldn't it be Too?), who is apparently a former friend of Dewey Cheatum. Cheatum storms the ring and he and Bad come to blows. Sean Alexander joins in and they double-team Cheatum until Alexander's ex-partner Brad Hunter makes the save. The heels powder and apparently we have ourselves a tag match.
Solid work from all involved here. Dewey seemed to re-injure his already injured back early in the match but continued the match. Good wrestling sequence early in the contest between Hunter and Alexander. At one point, with the other three men on the outside, Cheatum scaled the top rope and hit a moonsault from the top to the floor. Cheatum has got a ton of talent and is a really cool guy, but I question if it is wise for him to continue working, especially considering his style, with his back banged up. The end came when Cheatum tried to catch Bad with a top-rope hurricanrana but got caught with a big-time powerbomb to get the victory for Bad and Alexander.
SCW Women's (or Diva's, if you prefer) Champion Alexis Laree retained her title against Persephone, when Lilly came in and caused a DQ. I thought they were both counted out before then, but the official ruling was apparently a double DQ. Match seemed stiff but they did a good job of hiding both girls weaknesses for most of it.
Jesse and Justin Drive came to the ring with a garbage can full of weapons and complained that there was no competition for them left in SCW. This brought out C.W. Anderson, who in a classic promo said he had called a friend of his from Atlanta, for this very purpose. Anderson closed simply with "Kings, this is my gift to you…and Jesse Drive, this is my nightmare for you" as "Natural Born Killaz" hit and New Jack charged the ring. The match was all garbage spots, but the crowd was going absolutely nuts. Both guys ended up bloody before Jack finished off Drive with the "187" chair dive after Drive missed one of his own. Not a wrestling classic by any stretch of the imagination but served its purpose and was entertaining for the most part.
Brass Knuckles Champion Otto Schwanz was out next to defend against commissioner BC's latest charge, Q-Sic. At one point, Q-Sic surprised more than a few fans (including, but not limited to, the one they landed on) with a dive over the top onto Schwanz, who was on the floor. Schwanz locked on the full nelson at one point, but was distracted by The Boss. Schwanz took the mask off The Boss to reveal referee Roger Kerr. This served as a distraction and allowed Q-Sic to surprise Schwanz for the pinfall and the title. This was not bad, but I think it went a little too long.
The first semi-final of the 2001 SCW Internet Tournament was up next as Lazarus defeated SCW Heavyweight Champion Frank Parker to advance. Match was not bad, but not as good as their meeting last month at Misery. Laz caught Parker with the Britney Spear for the pin.
In the second semi-final, Scab defeated SCW North Carolina Champion C.W. Anderson with a running bulldog springing off the middle turnbuckle. Solid work from both guys and good psychology, which was totally lost on the Kings crowd. Before the end of the night, Scab ended up with a nasty looking bump on his head. Really good match.
Major Debeers returned to SCW and cut a promo ripping on pretty much everyone in the crowd, as well as his scheduled opponent, Kross. The two brawled all over the building, with Kross ending up bloody and requiring stitches after the show. The Boss came to the ring late in the match and hit Kross with a steel pole, which led to Debeers hitting a belly-to-back suplex for the pin. After the match, BC and Roger Kerr were both in the ring with The Boss, proving that Kerr was just a diversion. Kerr pulled out a familiar red and black cape as The Boss unmasked to reveal Shah of Grog, who donned the cape and reverted back to the evil Count Grog after embracing BC in the ring.
Laz defeated Scab with the Britney Spear in a quick match to become a two-time winner of the SCW Internet Tournament.
Gotti and Shannon Moore came to the ring joined by Brandi, Lilly, and William Wealth III for the main event loser leaves town match. Cham Pain entered and bid farewell to the Kings crowd, because he has no partner, so Gotti and Moore will win the loser leaves town match on a forfeit. But just as Pain is leaving the ring, the old Serial Thrillaz theme starts up and Mike Maverick returns to replace his former partner and team with Pain. Really good match with Gotti and Moore keeping Pain in the ring most of the time, which makes good sense because theoretically, they would not have been prepared to work Maverick, so they would want Pain in there as much as possible. The end came with Gotti setting Pain up for the TKO, but being low-blowed by Lilly, and then getting caught with the Pain killer for the pin. Wealth, Brandi, Gotti and Moore were none too pleased but also puzzled by Lilly's apparent double-cross. Pain was cutting a promo on Gotti and called Lilly back to the ring, degrading her before blocking an attempted slap and kissing her. Pain and Maverick had their hands raised after the match when Lilly got back up and low-blowed Maverick, setting up a second Pain killer. Pain and Lilly embraced in the ring as Pain proceeded to tell the Kings crowd that he was only in the match as a favor to Helms, it was not his idea, and he resented Helms no-showing on him. He went on to announce that he was tired of playing games and was now looking out for number one before leaving with Lilly to close a great show.
