Rock for the new millenium!!! Lifeforce is a progressive rock band based out of Asheville,North Carolina. The band has been together since 1986 and has developed a very powerful and original brand of progressive rock. Lifeforce is the brainchild of keyboardist Montie Osteen and guitarist Mark Waters. The two met in 1983. Osteen was playing in the progressive southern rock band Head First, while Waters was in the hard-rocking band,Tundra Heat. After the two met they began discussing the possibilities of forming a new progressive band that they could each explore thier creativity in an unlimited style. The two took some time to wrap up things with their old bands and to reorganize their personal lives in order to pursue the new project. Finally, in 1986 they got together to start the much anticipated project. They began rehearsing in a small back room of Osteen's home playing old Rare Bird tunes to merge their musical styles together. As the project progressed and they began to create their own signature sound, it became clear that this alliance had that 'special something' that would last for ages. Cass Harrell was recruited to play bass with Jack Clark on drums. After a while, Harrell left the band to pursue a career in the medical field. He was replaced on bass by Doug Wyatt. Wyatt had just come off the road after touring with The Royal Showmen. Wyatt had also done a stint with Jimmy Lopez. Wyatt added additional keyboards and guitars into the mix which expanded the band's progressive sound even further. Clark later left the band to run a family business and also opened a drum shop. He was replaced by drummer Dan Samson. With this new line-up in place Lifeforce rocketed to new musical heights. During this period of the early 90's the Osteen/Waters songwriting team was very prolific turning out song after song with new enthusiasm. Samson was an excellent musician but it became apparent that he was struggling with some personal issues. Lifeforce was ready to begin recording when Samson suddenly left the band for personal reasons. The recording had to be put on hold and Lifeforce began searching for a new drummer. Many drummers were auditioned and some played with the band for brief periods, but it proved very difficult to find a drummer that would fit the band. Eventually, the drummers position was filled by Norman 'Coz' Clinard. Coz used electronic drums and this also changed the sound of the band. The band began rehearsing again and was once again playing shows. In 1996 Osteen decided to take a much needed hiatus. Wyatt went on to work on other projects and played with Third Wish. During this time he launched his business building quality high end guitars while maintaining contact with Osteen and Waters. Coz began working with other bands playing different styles of music, most notably his work with his band Zoe Seed. Osteen and Waters continued to write music, working together on a regular basis. Wyatt also has continued working with Osteen and Waters as well as putting the finishing touches on his solo project. Lifeforce has moved into the new JupiterSpace studio and is finishing up the new CD release for 2010. The limited edition DVD "Lifeforce in Concert : Official Bootleg" was well received and set the stage for the new studio CD that will contain new material as well as other LifeForce classics. Stay tuned for updates on the release of the new CD!

LifeForce Mourns Great Friend, Alumni

On Thursday, June 8th, 2006 LifeForce's original drummer, Jack Clark, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Nevada. He was a great friend. Jack fought the good fight and was committed in helping his community any way he could. He served 25 years with the Asheville Fire & Rescue Department and rose to the rank of Battalion Chief. He was a devoted family man and an excellent friend. He will surely be missed. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family. We will not forget his infectious smile and great wit.
