The Five Environmental
Problems
-
Domestic Waste has greatly increased in Kampala City and this has caused
a very undesirable stench in some parts of the city.
-
The masses do not seem to be educated about the proper ways of dumping
domestic waste in the right ways eg the sorting of the garbage before
it is disposed off.
-
There is abudant waste of would be resources which could be recycled
and reused for the betterment of human life and preservaton of the environment.
-
The authorities concerned with domestic waste disposal seem to
pass legislations which are never implemented due to lack of co-ordination.
-
There is an increased conflict between the city authorities and
the residents of the areas which are harbouring the landfills where the
authorities dump the waste .
SOLUTIONS
-
Increased literacy to the people on Domestic Waste Disposal. This calls
for increased information flow as regards the proper methods of domestic
waste by use of seminars, Television, Radio and the internet.
-
Local actions should be taken by the students collecting garbage
which is poorly disposed so as to show the local communities the way forward
and to inspire them about the proper ways of environmental management.
-
The government should be lobbied to set up laws which penalise
the culprits of improper waste disposal so that the public can be forced
to respond especially in the instances where certain people are just careless.
