-Update 2.3.00-
Well, yet again other aspects of my life have prevented me from doing my regular updates on my car, and this website. I did some looking and found a set of stock "Teardrop II" alloy wheels to replace my steel wheels. I finally got around to getting them installed, and man do they look better than hubcaps.
I recived a Sprint Strut Tower Brace around Christmas, and finally found time to install it. To my suprise, when I went to remove the strut tower nuts, the studs were stripped. The nuts would not come off. I had to call Saturn Used Parts for two replacement Strut mounting plates. To install these simple little plates requires the removal of the entire strut/spring assembly. This turned a 10 minute STB install into a 3 hour suspension rebuild. After the struggle, I finnaly got everything back together, and took her for a test drive. It was definitly worth the trouble. After the 2" drop springs went on last year, the car had the tendancy to follow any inconsistancies in the road. This is called "bump steer". It makes things interesting at high speed. While I had the springs off, I noticed that the wrappings on the bottom 3 coils had been riding on each other. I decided to give it a try without the hose. After I lowered her off the jack I immediatly noticed that there was less wheelwell gap. The hose wrappings were preventing the springs from freely compressing. Next weekend I am going to unwrap all but the last coil on the rear springs. This should allow the rear to relax to its full drop.
Another project that I completed since the last update, is a power antenna install. This project is a little difficult simply because it requires the removal of the whole front right fender. I will explain this project in depth in the Tech section soon.
Next weekend's projects include cutting the short shifter down another inch. Installing brake cooling ducts, a switch to power down the antenna, a new louder air horn, and sticking on my S.P.O.C. decals.
-Update 2.28.00-
Last weekend was the big day. I installed my new Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch with the help of my uncle (ASE certified mechanic) and my soon to be father in law.
It was not as hard as I expected. We took alot of shortcuts that saved time when you arent in a full service shop. We did this swap with a handfull of air tools and a shop jack. Man I love air tools. Checkout the upcoming tech feature for the shortcuts.
-Update 3.23.00-
I finally reccived the remaining parts of the used turbocharger that I bought. Unfortunatly in the same week, I lost my job. So now all projects are on standby while the job search commences. I also managed to get hit by a truck in the same week so now I have to pony up $300 to get my quarter panel repainted. OUCH!! That could have been spent to get the hoodscoop installed.
