Chapter One
My Journey
As I woke up one morning, I smelled a horrible stench. I looked around and noticed there were dead and live bodies laying all around me. I came to my scenes and looked at my legs and hands. I was in shackles! I screamed as I realized I was on a slave ship. I knew I would never see my Mother, Father, Sister or the rest of my family, ever again! I tried to get up but I couldn't. I was pinned to the floor with more shackles. I panicked. Finally, I was so restless that I got tired. Then I realized I was going to be a slave.
I realized I was going to have to work for a master. I would be sold. If I did something bad or wrong, I would probably get whipped. I started crying really hard thinking I was dying. But I was not. I was very mad and sad.
I heard a rumble. The ship had stopped. I looked out. There was a stand for an auctioneer. I was going to be sold. Three hours later, I was sold to a man from Virginia. My master's name was John Scotey, but I had to call him MASTER. He bought me for $800.00.
When we got to Virginia, he told me I had to obey him at all times. He took me to the fields. Then he pointed to where I would stay. I looked at a very old, nasty, dirty, hut. It had a little old washing tub with a very old water pump outside the hut. Then my Master said I would get fed twice a day because I was young. I would get fed in the morning and mid afternoon. I would get one day off, that was Sunday, but my MASTER could still call me to work.
Chapter Two
Three Long Years
For three long years, I worked for my master. Every Sunday, I got off work. Once I got whipped because I tried to escape. I ran and ran and ran. I did not escape. I had to work extra hard!
Chapter Three Planning The Big Escape
On one Sunday night, me and the other slaves in my hut got together. We planned an escape. The next Sunday, we would escape. We would attack the guards because we were strong. The five women would take the three children. The ten strong men would attack, and the three not so strong men would help the women escape. When the strong men were done attacking, they would escape too!
Chapter Four
!!! ESCAPING !!!
The whole week went by. It was Sunday evening. It was about five hours until the escape!
Chapter Five
The Trouble Getting Up North
We needed to follow the "drinking gourd". We would look up at the sky and travel up north. We would hide in the daytime. We would travel at night so we would not be seen.
Chapter 6
Finding a Home
Two weeks went by. Now, to find a home. One week later, we moved to Edmonton, Canada. But, where to find a home? Three weeks later, we found a nice cozy home. We bought the house for two sheep and a cow that we found along the way.
Chapter Seven
Happy At Last
Finally, everybody found a house. I got the nice, cozy one! I married a nice man and everyone started to live the lives we should have all along.
THE END
Author's Comments: I think my story is very realistic. Being a slave would have been awful. I worked hard on this story. I hope you enjoyed reading it. I am glad everybody is free, in America.
