When Meggie said this, an extremely sad look showed up on Nick's face. "Why? What did I ever do? I thought I was being a good friend, but I guess not," Nick said, softly. His shoulders sagged, disappointed in himself. He moved away from her, thinking him holding her would scare her also.

"You told me you loved me," Meggie said, quietly.

"That scares you? I thought if you knew that it would help you realize that you are loved, no matter what that piece of shit boyfriend tells you. Why does it scare you? I'm sorry, I don't mean to. I just wanna know why," Nick said, looking at her curiously.

"Lots of reasons, Nick. You are one of my best friends, and I'm scared of losing that," she said, scooting closer to him and resting her head on his shoulder. "Everyone who has ever told me they loved me has ended up hurting me, besides my friends, you know that! And, if we became more then friends, and something happened, like you hurt me in one way or another, I don't want to lose our friendship."

"And who the hell said we would stop being friends? What if we're 'the one' for each other, and we just don't know it yet? Life is about taking chances, and I think we should take a chance, and take our relationship to another level. I understand you have a boyfriend, but I know he doesn't treat you like you deserve, and I also know that I can treat you right, the way you deserve. I'm not going to hurt you, that's the last thing I want. God, you are so special to me, Meggie. You mean the world to me. I would treat you like a queen. But, the question is; will you let me?" Nick asked, brushing the hair away from her face and kissing her forehead, waiting for her response.
