__chapter 2

_____Best Friends
Chapter 2

Meggie fell asleep, rather quickly. When she woke up, she glanced at the clock sitting on the table beside Nick's bed. It was 8:00, meaning she was late babysitting for Jane. "Oh shit," she swore, gettin' up and rushin' downstairs. "Nick! What are you still doing here?" Meggie asked, surprised, seeing Nick, sitting with Aaron and Angel when he was supposed to be on his date.

"I cancelled my date," Nick answered, simply, while shrugging his shoulders.

"Why'd you do that?" Meggie asked, confused. She knew Nick wouldn't cancel a date for just any old reason.

"You looked so peaceful sleeping, and I figured I'd have more fun with my best friend then some girl," Nick answered, giving her a sweet smile, and winking at her.

"Oh, thanks, I think," Meggie said, sitting on the sofa. She wasn't quite sure why Nick just canceled his date. She had begged him many times before to cancel dates, because she was bored and she had absolutly nothing to do, but he always refused, saying his dates were the highlights of his week.

"Meggie, can we bake chocolate chip cookies, please?" Angel asked Meggie, politly, while looking over at her. She knew Meggie would agree, since almost everytime Meggie babysat for them they baked something.

"Sure Ang, let's go," Meggie answered, gettin' up, and leading the young girl to the kitchen. They were about half way through baking their cookies, when Nick and Aaron quietly snuck into the kitchen and started sticking their fingers into the dough, then licking it off. "Hey! What the Hell do you think you're doing? Get your filthy paws out of our dough," Meggie ordered, hitting their hand with a spoon.

Angel started giggling, mischieviously. "Payback," she said, slyly, while grabbing a handful of flour. She looked at Meggie before throwing it at Aaron and Nick.

"THIS IS WAR," Aaron screamed, at the top of his lungs, and throwing his hands up in the air in excitement. Everyone proceeded to grab handfuls of flour and throw them until there was no flour left to throw.

"Ang, Aar, you think you could go get some towels from upstairs?" Nick asked, laughing at how they all looked. Angel and Aaron ran upstairs, leaving a trail a flour whereever they stepped. "I'll get the broom," Nick said, shaking his head at the mess. As he was walking across the room, he slipped on a pile of flour. As he started to fall, he grabbed onto Meggie, to stop his fall, but Nick's sudden weight was too much for her, and they both collapsed onto the floor, Meggie on top of him. They instantly started laughing, but soon stopped in ackward silence. Nick looked up at Meggie and gave her a shy smile, quickly deciding to do what he was debating to do, he leaned forward and kissed her. Meggie was a shocked, to say the least, and was about to pull away, when she felt Nick's arms wrap around her, tightly.

'He's a great kisser,' she thought, as she eased into the assault Nick was giving to her lips. After a minute or two, they pulled away, shy smiles playing on both of their faces.

"What happened to you guys?" Aaron asked, while Angel laughed, as they entered the room.

"Uh, we fell," Meggie said, quickly gettin' up, from her position on top of Nick.

"Oh, here's the towels," Angel said, putting them on the counter. "Can we go play Nintendo?"

"No, you have to...-"Nick said, sternly, before Meggie interupted.

"Yes, you can go play. Have fun. I'll call you when the cookies are ready," Meggie answered, smiling smugly at Nick. "If you were that age, would you rather be cleaning up the kitchen, or playing video games?"

"If I was their age, I'd rather be playing video games. Hell, I'd rather be playing video games now," Nick said, smiling sheeplishly.

"You can go, then. I'll clean up. Don't worry about it," Meggie offered, smiling sweetly at Nick.

Nick shook his head 'no', and started sweeping. They cleaned up the kitchen in silence. When the cookies were ready, Meggie put them on a plate and carried them into Nick's room, where Aaron and Angel were playing Mortal Kombat 3. "You guys have a couple cookies and them you're going to bed," Nick told them, sitting behind them on his bed, with Meggie beside him. They did as they were told, and soon enough, they were in bed.

"I'm gonna go now," Meggie said, quietly, as she grabbed her stuff.

"I'll walk you out," Nick said, getting up, with her. "I had fun tonight, Meggie," Nick told quietly, and somewhat shyly.

"Me too. Good night, Nick," Meggie said, nodding her head and, walking out the door. He walked her out onto the porch, wanting to make sure she got home safely.

"Good night," he said, pulling her into a tight hug. One she was so used to. She hugged him back, just as tightly. He pulled away, but still kept a grip on her shoulders, and looked deep into her eyes, trying to get her to keep eye contact with him. "Would you mind if I kissed you again?" he asked, quietly, bowing his head down.

"Not at all," Meggie said, giggling a bit at his shyness. He leaned forward and gave her a kiss, reaching to top the kiss they shared earlier. Once they ran out of breath, they pulled away, still holding onto each other, as if their life depended on it.

Nick was the first one to speak; "I'll call you tomorrow." Meggie smiled, and nodded her head. "Take this, and read it when you get home," Nick said, handing her a note, that he retrieved from his pocket. Meggie took it out of his hand, and gave him one last soft kiss before leaving.
