__chapter 3

_____Best Friends
Chapter 3

When Meggie arrived home, she went straight to her room, eager to read the note she was given from Nick. She unfolded the note carefully. It read:

Hey Meggie,

I'm writing this while you're asleep...upstairs...in my bed. I wish I was there with you, watching your angelic features while you sleep, but I just keep telling myself 'all in good time.' I can imagine you now, sleeping soundly with a small smile playing on your face, from a dream you just had. I'm just gonna pretend that you're dreaming of me...instead of Ryan Phillippe!!! I hope when the time does come, we can make my dream finally come true. I promised myself that I was gonna kiss you today. Finally, after waiting 5 long years I'm gonna make my move, that is if I don't chicken out. Either way you'll still know how I feel about you. No one even knows that I like you. I nearly crapped my pants when my Mom brought it up. I guess everyone thinks we're meant to be. Mom, Dad, B-Rok, Beej, especially me. Everyone except you, that is. I saw a look of utter disgust when my Mom mentioned us ever being together. Ah well, I'll take my chances. I just wrote to let ya know how I feel 'bout ya.

Love always,

your bestest friend, Nick.

Meggie smiled to herself. Nick liked her, no, he loved her. And she loved him, too. Although she never thought of it until now, she realized he was something special. He wasn't just her best friend, he was the love of her life. Now, how was she supposed to explain this to her boyfriend. She thought carefully about it for a moment or so, then decided she would figure out her feelings towards her boyfriend in the morning. She picked up the phone and dialed Nick's number.

"Hello?"

"Nicky? It's Meggie. I read your note," she told him, still smiling.

"And?" he asked, curiously, with a hint of nervousness in his voice.

"Why in the world did you wait 5 whole years before telling me?" she exclaimed.

"I was scared and I didn't want to ruin our friendship. Why? How do you feel about me? Wait, maybe I don't wanna know," Nick said, quickly.

"Nick, would you relax? I think you'll take this as good news. I love you, very, very much," Meggie told him.

"You do?" he asked, surprised. He was almost sure she would say she just wanted to be friends with him. It never worked with him and girls he liked.

"Yeah, don't sound so surprised."

"I love you, too. It's late, you should get some sleep, but I'll see you tomorrow," Nick said, smiling to himself. He looked at himself in the mirror, seeing the gigantic smile plastered to his face. He nearly laughed at how stupid he looked.

"K, good night. I love you." She enjoyed telling him this, letting him know exactly how she felt about him. She felt like she was finally free.

"Love you, too." When they hung up, Nick started jumping around his room, unable to contain his excitement any longer. Meggie saw him through her window and burst out laughing, holding her stomach. When Nick realized he was being watched, he looked out his window and sure enough, there was Meggie. He opened up his window, his face red from jumping around his room, and from embarrassment. "How long have you been watching me?" he asked, slightly out of breath.

Meggie shrugged her shoulders. "Long enough," she said, simply. She smiled at him, and winked, then closed her curtains.

Nick sat up in bed. "What the fuck?!? That was the strangest dream I've ever had. Meggie and me?!? Crazy! The idea is simply crazy," he said, rubbing tiredly at his eyes. He decided to just get up, knowing that sleep wouldn't come too easily. He threw off the covers, and swung his legs over the side of the bed. He laughed once more at the thought of his dream.
