The Black Dragons of Riverdale Prep! Chapter 1!

The usual group was missing a few people today, Brooke was sick with the flu, and Natalie, and Lindsey decided to eat inside. I would understand why too, it was raining lightly outside where we usually ate lunch, but Alli and Alex INSISTED that we eat lunch outside. And of course, almost all of us did. So today for lunch, it was me, Shayna, Alli, Alex, and Ashley to eat outside. We sat near the big steps in front of the gym, under the roof. My boyfriend, Scott, had decided (like always) to eat lunch with the rest of the varsity football team. He barely ever eats lunch with me and my friends, but over the months I guess I’ve gotten use to it.

"Hey Jax! Where’s Scott?" Shayna laughed using my nickname they all gave to me in junior high.

"Where else, but with the football team," I sighed.

"Aww, it’s all right. You’ve got us!" Ashley said, and gave me a light hug.

"I guess, so where’s Jeff, Shayna?" I asked her. She gave a sad look.

"Oh well, he’s working with the principal today, trying to make him give in to his demands." She said sadly. He never eats lunch with her either. I feel so bad for her, he use to eat lunch with us all the time, but ever since he became president, he seems to never ever have time for her.

"That sucks. When was the last time you two ate together?" Alex asked Shayna. Shayna shook her head.

"Way too long ago," she replied. I nodded.

"Yea, Scott hasn’t ate with me for ages!" I added. The rest of lunch we just chatted and ate, not saying anything more about Scott and Jeff. I really didn’t really want to talk about him either.

Soon, it was time to go to the bathroom, like we always did, so Shayna and Ashley could re-do their make-up and the rest of us could just fix our hair and stuff. I didn’t need to fix anything so I just walked outside and waited in the hallway. My back was turned from the hallway, since I was looking in my backpack for a homework sheet when I felt someone bump into me hard.

"Oww," I said in pain, they had knocked into me pretty hard. I turned to see who had bumped into me and my gaze fell upon two of the most gorgeous blue eyes I had ever seen. They were as blue as a cloudless blue sky in the summertime. I could not get my eyes off him, and he was staring right back at me. I soon shook my head to get myself out of the trance I had gotten into and saw exactly who those eyes belonged too. To my surprise, it was JC Chasez of the Black Dragons. The Black Dragons were this group of five guys, who just didn’t want to fit in. They were considered the tough guys of the school. No one got in their way, but it was hard to anyway since they rarely ever spoke.

"Hey, what was up with that? That really hurt!" I said to him. He nodded his head.

"Sorry, Jackie. They pushed me. I didn’t mean to." He apologized, I was surprised he even knew my name.

"How do you know my name?" I asked him.

"You are like on every girl’s sports team on our school, not to mention Honor Roll and all that junk."

"Hey JC! Stop the chatting and let’s go!" I heard Justin Timberlake, another member of the Black Dragons call over here to his comrade.

"Coming! Hey sorry bout that." He rushed over to his pals and walked off. I shook my head. By now, the others were all outside and had seen me talking to JC.

"Jackie, what was that all about?" Alli asked me.

"Man, you will not believe what those guys did!" And so I explained my story to them.

"How rude!" Ashley said. I agreed.

"I know, but he did actually apologized which amazed me. It was the first time I’ve ever heard any of them talk out loud the whole time we’ve been at this school." I told them.

"I’ve never heard them talk. They are so mysterious and quiet." Alex said.

"Oh well," I looked at my watch, "hey girls! Time to get going! The bell is gonna ring any minute now!" We all went our separate ways, and I went to my locker to grabbed my science book. As I opened my locker, a note slipped out. It was written on simple binder paper, with my name scribble in blue ink on the front. It was folded into a small rectangle, and I opened it. It was dated and said:

Jackie,

Hey girl! Sorry I didn’t eat wit ya today, had to eat wit the boys, ya know? I am truly sorry. Believe me! Call me bye -- Love Always Scott

I really can’t believe him, when did he HAVE to eat with the guys? He ALWAYS eats with them. I tossed the note to the back of my locker and noticed another note. I guess I missed it, it was on black paper, with my name written neatly in gold ink. A little message at the bottom said, ‘Don’t read until you get home.' I decided to follow directions and I shoved the note into my cargo pants’ jean pocket, grabbed my book and went off to class.

All throughout class, the mystery of who sent me the note bugged me, but I would have to wait until later to find out, hopefully. Soon, math was over and it was off to my final class, science. As I walked into the room, I saw all of the Black Dragons sitting at a table. Wait a sec, they weren’t in my class before! And they’re sitting at my table! I saw my desk, empty. That means, that I have to sit with all of them! I walked over to my desk quietly and sat down, I put my backpack down. I saw that Scott was sitting at another desk and walked over to him. He gave me a huge frown,

"Why do I have to seat over here?" He whined to me. I shook my head.

"I dunno," I told him and touched his hand, "it’s just a seat."

"But still," he whined again. The second bell rang, so I went over to my desk and sat down. All of my friends who use to sit at my table were all glaring at me like I did something. I had nothing to do with this, it’s not my fault they all got moved and I didn’t. Class started, and found out which "dragon" I was sitting next to. JC, then next to him Chris, Justin across from JC, and Lance and Joey next to Justin.

"Today, we have some new students. They were in second period science but have now moved into sixth period," Mr. Bartley, our science teacher announced.

The whole class, none of the "dragons" talked to me. They discussed things among themselves, and when we had to work as a group to answer a question, I guess I was the only one in the group since I was the only one to answer. When the bell rang, signaling the end of class, I bolted out the door, wanting to get home fast.

I walked home alone since my house was about a block away. Usually, I was the only one walking but today some people were behind me. I didn’t turn to see who it was since I thought that would be rude. They chatted a little behind me, loudly enough for me to hear bits and pieces of what they were saying. I didn’t really listen to their private conversation, I just kept walking quietly down the street. My little ponytail buns bobbed up and down a little as I walked.

I heard laughter from the group behind me, all male voices. One of them must have told a joke or something. Oh well, a gust of wind blew past me. Brr, it was cold, and I wasn’t wearing a sweater or jacket. I had one in my backpack though. The wind blew again, and I shivered. I felt like I was being wrapped in a silk sheet.

"Hey," someone from behind me called. I turned and a black leather jacket came flying my way, I caught it and looked to see who it came from. Whoa, it was the Black Dragons. I looked down at the jacket and then to them. I noticed all of them had leather jackets, with different details on each, except for JC. He was wearing a tight white tank top now. I looked back down at the jacket, a name was sewn on the front, "JC." I guess it was JC’s jacket.

"What’s this for?" I asked, we had all stopped walking and were now facing each other. JC just shrugged.

"You looked cold," he answered bluntly. I shook my head.

"But why’d ya give me your jacket? I could have just froze the rest of the way home," I asked. This time, Lance answered.

"You did almost all the work in science without asking for our help, so we kind of owe ya one," he said. I put the jacket on slowly, I felt awkward. As I put on the jacket, I smelled something, cologne. I guess it was JC’s cologne. It smelled so warm and inviting, so different from Scott’s sexy and take me now cologne. I shook the thought out of my head, I have a great boyfriend and his name is Scott. I smiled.

"No prob, and thanks," I turned and walked around the corner. My house was just a few minutes away. The "dragons" were still behind me, where could they be going? Soon, I was in front of my house, so I took my key out of my pocket and unlocked the door. I turned and looked one last time outside, the "dragons" walked past my house and Joey gave me a wink. I really didn’t know how to react so I just smiled and shut the door.

No one was home. I was an only child, and my parents were on vacation for their wedding anniversary. They wouldn’t be back for another week or so. But still, I ran upstairs to my room and slammed the door shut. I pulled the jacket close to my face and sniffed the cologne. Wait! What is wrong with me!? He’s not my boyfriend! Scott is!

I’m glad it’s Friday, luckily I wouldn’t have to put up with Scott until Monday at school. I was still upstairs, lying on my bed. My door was still closed, even though I was alone. Why am I with Scott? He’s cute, popular, a football player, and sweet. But he doesn’t love me like I do for him, I can just tell. Do I REALLY love him? That was an answer I was unsure of...

E-mail Jackie.
