The Pact! Prologue!

"So, I guess this is it, huh?" Meggie asked her best friend in the entire world, Nick. He was flying over to Europe to record his very first album with 4 friends of his, hoping it would become an international success. Together, they were known as the Backstreet Boys.

Meggie knew he had it in him to become a world wide success. He was the most talented person she knew. She wished him all the luck in the world.

"I'm scared Meggie," Nick confessed. He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist, and rested his head on her shoulder, which he did easily, considering she was only a few inches taller then him.

"Nickers, what do you possibly have to be scared of?" Meggie asked him.

"Everything. I'm gonna be exploring the world without my best friend at my side," he complained. No matter how serious he was trying to be, he ALWAYS complained.

She smiled at him. "I'm sure you'll survive without me," she said.

"No, I won't. I'll probably get some disease, and live my life having a machine breathe for me," Nick said, completly exagerating. {Note: No offense to anyone who has to or knows someone that has to live their life like that. My uncle has to do something similar, so I didn't mean anything by it.}

"I doubt it. Stop exagerating, I'm sure you'll do fine," Meggie said, pushing his shoulder gently.

"Let's make a pact, right here and now. That whenever one of us needs the other, we'll be there," he said, as his eyes lit up.

"Alright, but we can't tell anyone about it. It'll be our last secret," she said, looking down at the ground below her, mostly covered with dirt, and tree branches. She saw a jagged piece of glass, with the sun gleaming off it. She picked it up and then whiped the edge along her jeans, cleaning it of any dirt that may have been on it. She brought it up to her right index finger, and pricked her finger, causing it to bleed almost instantly.

She gave the piece of glass to Nick. He took it from her and did the same with his index finger. Then they pressed their two fingers together, sealing the pact. "Now, we have to kiss," Nick said, moving closer to her.

She giggled. "Nick! No, we don't. That's not how the pact works," she said, still giggling abit.

"Hey, I tried," he said. "Oh, I almost forgot. I got you something with the money I made from those commercials." He pulled a square box out of his pocket.

"Nickers!" she exclaimed. "You shoulda kept that money for yourself."

"You got me those video games with your modeling money, so I got you this," he said, handing her the box. "Open it up."

She did so. Inside, was a necklace, and 2 rings. "Oh Nicky, they're so beautiful," she said, smiling widely.

"I made the rings big, so we're still able to wear them when we're older. If it's too big, you can always wear it on your necklace," he said. He took out the ring, and slipped it on her thumb. "Perfect fit," he whispered. She smiled and slipped his ring on his thumb also. "Read what it says," he demanded.

She looked down at it. "Best friends," she read outloud.

"'Cause that's what we are," he beamed, proudly.

"Coudl you put the necklace on me?" she asked, holding up her hair.

"Sure, turn around," he said. She did, and he put the new piece of jewlerry on her. "It's a locket, ya know? Look inside."

She carefully opened it up. Inside, was a picture of her and on the opposite side was a picture of Nick. "Oh Nickers, I love it," she said, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. "Thank you."

"Nick, come on," they both heard Nick's mom say.

He sighed. "I guess this is it," he said.

"God Nicky, don't be so dramatic. It's not forever, just for now," Meggie assured him.

"I guess I should get going. Remember our pact," he said, walking away with his head hanging low.

"I will. Oh Nick, wait," she said, hurrying to catch up with him.

He turned around. "Yeah?" he said, wondering what she wanted.

She took a deep breath, then pressed her lips against his. "There, now the pact's sealed," she said.

He smiled, but shook his head. "No," he said, then pressed his lips against hers. lonnger then she had. "Now it is," he said.

She shook her head, smiling. "Go, and don't forget to call," she said, watching her best friend leave her. Once he was out of sight, she ran her fingers along her lips, and sighed. "Jeez Nickers, what have you done?" she asked, but only mother nature heard her.
