take it all the way to B4. Beat the two Team Rocket Guards and then the door they were guarding will open. Go through it and approach the man there. He will identify himself as Giovanni. You'll be seeing a lot more (more than you would want) throughout the game. Beat him (not too hard of a task) and get the Silph Scope as your reward. Leave the Casino basement now, but before you leave Celadon City, go through the west exit. Sure enough, a Snorlax is blocking the way further westward, but use your Pokémon with cut to break down the tree blocking the way to the north entrance of the gate building. Go through the gate and into the house just west of it. Talk to the girl there, and she'll give you HM 02, Fly. Fly is a very useful ability. It is great in battles, and can when used outside of battle, you can use it to fly to and city/town you have already visited. Try fly out now, by flying back to Lavender Town. The Rest of Lavender town: In Lavender Town, heal up, and pick a Pokémon lineup that has a lot of elemental attacks (Fire, Water, Electric, etc.). Get your best Psychic Pokémon out. When your ready, enter the Pokémon Tower. With the Silph Scope you got in Celadon City, you can finally identify the ghosts that inhabit the Tower. You'll find them to be Gastly and Haunter. The two of them are pretty weak against Psychic, so use this to your advantage. You may also find a Cubone in the Pokémon Tower (this is the only place you can find them). The Channelers you face in the Pokémon Tower aren't too hard, they usually have 1 to 3 Pokémon that consist of the Psychic weak Gastly and Haunter. Along the trip through the Tower, you will find a healing zone. Make sure to use it. It will fully recover HPs, PPs, and any cures any bad status aliments. As you make your way towards the end of the Tower, you will be attacked by Marowak (which you can't capture). Beat it and head on to the top of the Pokémon Tower. You have to fight 3 Team Rocket members. After you beat them, you can reach Mr. Fuji, who was trapped here the whole time. Talking to him will bring you back to his house in Lavender Town. He will give you the Poké Flute, which you can use to wake up the two Snorlaxes. Cycling road and Fushcia city: With the acquiring of the Poké Flute, you have two ways to get to Fuchsia City. You can take Cycling Road (which most people do) which is west of Celadon City. You may also want to take the path that goes along the coast that is south of Lavender Town. Both ways require you to wake up the sleeping giant, Snorlax. I hope you bought some Great Balls at Celadon City. These things won't go easily with a Poké Ball. Even if you take it down to near death while it's sleeping, it's not a sure thing. Just don't kill the thing. If you kill it, the Snorlax will run away, never to be seen again. Snorlax is a very powerful, albeit slow, Pokémon. Capturing one will help make your lineup stronger (as well as helping you finish your Pokédex). If you choose to take Cycling Road to Fuchsia, go back to Celadon City. Take the west exit and engage the Snorlax in battle there. After you beat/capture him, go through the gate. You'll automatically equip your bike and start sliding down the hill. You can't get off the bike. As you make your descent down the hill, you will fight some Pokémon Trainers as well as finding some Poké Ball items on the ground. In any case, when you reach the end of Cycling Road, go east past the gate to Fuchsia City. On the second floor of the gate, you can trade a Slowbro for a Lickitung (only way to get it). If you choose to take the Seaside Route, you'll have to fight many trainers. Go straight south of Lavender Town, through the gate until you reach the Snorlax. Wake him up and beat/capture him. Then, continue going south. The route is direct, so you can't get lost. Along the way though, in one of the houses, you can get a Great Rod which will let you fish for Goldeens and Shellders (but, you won't have a 100% percent chance like you did with the Old Rod). Keep on pressing forward towards Fuchsia City. In the gate, go to the second floor and talk to the scientist there. If you have at least 50 Pokémon in your Pokédex, you will get Exp. All, which lets you share Exp. Points gained in a battle with all the Pokémon in your lineup, regardless if whether if they fought or not. Fuchsia City is home to the Safari Zone, a place where you can capture many rare Pokémon. However, capturing them isn't as easy as usual. Your Pokémon don't fight in the Safari Zone, you have to use your wits to capture them. After exploring Fuchsia City a bit, go to the north part of town towards the Safari Zone entrance. Pay the fee of 500 and get 30 Safari Balls. You can only use Safari Balls in the Safari Zone, so don't waste them. The Safari Zone may look like an ordinary place. Throughout the Safari Zone (and the rest houses) are Poké balls containing items you will need. Anyway, to experience the new way of getting Pokémon, walk in the high grass and engage in a Pokémon Battle. First off, as a mentioned first, your Pokémon won't battle the one you encounter. You have 4 options to choose from. Ball will try to capture a Pokémon. Using it costs 1 Safari Ball. Bait will throw a piece of food at the Pokémon. You can use Bait as many times as you want. Bait will keep the Pokémon from running away, but it makes it harder to capture the Pokémon. Throw Rock will make it easier you capture the Pokémon, but it may run away if you do so. Run is easy enough to explain. Note that the Pokémon can run away any time it wants to, so make the best of your resources. You also have a time limit in the Safari Zone. You can press Start to check out the current time left. Time doesn't go by the seconds, it goes by how many steps you've taken (ex. You can stay still in the same spot for 24 hrs, but you'll still have same amount of time when you left). Capture as many Pokémon as you want and go through all the routes. One of the routes will lead you to the Secret House and Gold Teeth hidden in a Poké ball. The man in the secret house will give you HM 03, Surf. Surf is a good water attack in battle, and you can use the ability outside of battle to float along the water. Leave the Safari Zone whenever you wish. Once outside, give the pair of Gold Teeth to the Warden of the Safari Zone (his house in the bottom right of Fuchsia City). He will give you HM 04, Strength. Strength is an okay attack, but its main purpose is to move boulders outside of battle. Go to the house next door to the Warden and talk to the man there. He will give you the Super Rod, which you can use to get the best Water Pokémon. Now, go to the Pokémon Gym. At first, it may look you have a clear path to the Gym Leader, Koga, but if you try to, you'll be blocked by an invisible force. The Gym has invisible walls designed to confuse trainers. In order to identify the walls, look for the breaks in the lined floor. That signifies a wall. You can then follow the row of broken lines to see the wall. Get through the trainers and reach Koga. Koga likes to use Poison Pokémon, so you may want to get some Normal and Fighting Pokémon out. Beat his Pokémon and you will get the Soulbadge. The Soulbadge will make the defense of all your Pokémon go up. You will also get TM 06 which teaches Toxic. Toxic is a very powerful Poison attack, so teach it to a Poison Pokémon. Leave the Gym and now fly back to Cerulean City, Vermilion City, Lavender Town, or Celadon City. From any of those cities, go to the Saffron gate. Give the drink you have been holding since your last visit to Celadon City to the gatekeeper. You can now pass through any of the Saffron gates. Saffron City: In Saffron City, you may find that having two Gyms will get you 2 badges. Well, the first gym is not an official gym, so you won't get any badge for winning there. But, go in there anyway. In the first gym, you will have to get through a line of Pokémon trainers, all of them have Fighting Pokémon. Get your Psychic out. You can even use the Gastlys, Haunters, and Gengars you got back in Lavender Town here, since they can't be hit by most normal attacks. If you get through the line of trainers, you will fight the Gym Leader. Beat his Fighting Pokémon lineup and you can select from two Pokémon in their Poké balls. Hitmonchan is a Fighting Pokémon. He likes to use his fists, like a boxer. He is mostly the same as Hitmonlee, but his punching moves (as you get them) sometimes have elemental properties such as Fire, and Ice. Hitmonlee is also a Fighting Pokémon, but he uses his feet instead of his fists. His attacks are usually only Normal, but they tend to be more powerful than Hitmonchan's punches. You won't be able to enter the gym next door, where you will get the 6th badge. Find the Silph Co. Building. Go inside and prepare yourself for a long walk through the building. Set all throughout the building are warp paths. These warp paths will send you to set point in the building. The problem with this is that you don't know which floor it is (each floor is very similar, and until you get a good look at them, you can't recognize the certain landmarks of each floor) so you may get confused. Just go around until you find the Card Key. You have to use the Card Key to open the gated doors. That will open the way to new areas in the building. At some point in the building you will face Gary (you know you're on the right path if you do this). Beat Gary and talk to other guy there. He will give you a very rare Pokémon, Lapras. Lapras is a somewhat good Water Pokémon. Anyway, continue to use the warp pads until you reach a different floor (it is different from the others, the floors are all white). This is the highest floor of the Silph Co. Building. Beat the Team Rocket members guarding the door and then go into the room. In there is your old friend from Celadon City, Giovanni. Armed with some tougher Pokémon than last time, you'll have a harder time facing him. But, his Pokémon should be no match if you have a good Pokémon lineup. Beat Giovanni, and he'll leave, taking most of Team Rocket from Saffron City. Also, talk to the man sitting in the chair. That is the President of Silph Co. Talking to him will give you a very rare, but extremely useful item. You may have read about it in the lower floors of the building. The Master Ball he gives you may look like a regular Poké Ball. But the Master Ball has a 100% chance of capturing a Pokémon. That means you can capture anything at full strength and you would have no doubt of getting it. This is the only copy of the Master Ball you get in the whole game, so I suggest saving it for now. Since Saffron City is now free, you can walk around more freely. Go Mr. Psychic's House on bottom row of houses. He will give you TM 29, which teaches Psychic. Psychic is a very powerful Psychic attack and kills most Pokémon weak against Psychic easily. Also, get a Poké Doll (they sell them in Celadon City) and give it to the Miming Girl in the top left corner of Saffron City. She will give you TM 31 which teaches Mimic. Now, go to the newly opened Psychic Gym. Again, you have to face the very hard warp pads. Through a lot of testing, I've figured one of the quick ways to get to Sabrina. In order to understand it, just note that I named each room with a number. And each warp pad in a room a letter. ------------ | 3 | 4 | 5 | ---- ---- ------------ | A | | C | | 2 | S | 6 | S = Sabrina / X = Start ---- ---- ------------ | 1 | X | 7 | ---- ---- ------------ | B | | D | ---- ---- Now, he's my path. At start, take the single warp pad there. You'll be at 7d. Go to 7a. You'll be at 5c. From there, go to 5b. You warp to 3a. Go down to 3b and you'll reach Sabrina! (There are many other ways to get this point, but this is the shortest I can find). Sabrina uses a Psychic Pokémon. Good choices against Psychic Pokémon are anything other than Fighting and Rock Pokémon. Normal Pokémon seem to take the Psychic attacks well. Defeating Sabrina nets you with another badge (Marshbadge, which makes traded Pokémon up to Lvl. 70 obey you). Your TM reward is 46, Psywave. Another powerful Psychic attack, this makes great support for your high level Psychic Pokémon. Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres: Only 2 more badges await for you to capture. But, it is better to go after the three legendary birds at this point. They are…. Articuno, a bird which specializes in ice attacks. Zapdos, a bird with shocking wings and lightning attacks, and Moltres, a bird that is as hot as the sun with its fire attacks. The easiest one of them to get is Zapdos. But first, I suggest going to Cinnabar Island for a bit. You can go to Cinnabar Island (the easy way) by surfing south from Pallet Town. Go that way for now, we'll explore the other route later on. Don't do anything that much, just buy some Ultra Balls from the shop there and then fly to back to Cerulean City. Go through the east exit, all the way towards the Rock Tunnel entrance again. This time though, stop when you reach the square area of high grass. Use the break in the fence and surf along the water. If you Surf south enough, you will reach the another part of land that the fence used to block. Go onto it and walk until you reach a big building. That is the Power Plant. In the Power Plant, there are a variety of Electric Pokémon. Pikachus (with higher levels than their Viridian Forest friends), Raichus, Magnemite, Magneton, Voltorb, and Electrode. And you'll meet up with Zapdos at the end of the Power Plant. Walk through the Power Plant, but be wary of the Pokéballs lying on the ground. They may look items you can get, but some of the Pokéballs are high level Voltorbs and Electrodes. Fighting with them will tax your Pokémon's HPs and multiple fights may require you to escape and heal your Pokémon. If survive all the attacks from Electric Pokémon, you'll meet up with Zapdos. A wise man would save right before meeting up with him. Try to talk to Zapdos and you'll engage a battle with him. Zapdos is level 50. He knows Thundershock and Drill Peck. Have your strong rock Pokémon out, they can handle the Electric attacks better. Remember though, the point of the battle is to capture Zapdos, not kill it. I wouldn't recommend using the Master Ball now, you have Ultra Balls and the Master Ball will come in handy later on. Whittle down the HPs of Zapdos to a low enough point and make him go to Sleep. Throw out your Ultra Ball and hope for the best. When everything is finished, take the nearby exit to leave the Power Plant. Now, go to Fuchsia City and go to the beach. Starting surfing and follow the fence so you won't get lost on your way. At some point in the surfing, you'll reach Seafoam Islands. There is no way to pass through it without going inside it. Seafoam Islands is really a huge cave. Water Pokémon reside here, so Electric Pokémon (you may want to use your Zapdos, after you healed it of course) will make most of your Pokémon lineup. Go through the cave. When you see boulders lying around, get a Pokémon with strength to push them into nearby holes. Doing so will plug up water currents and allow you to reach Articuno. When you do reach Articuno, use the same strategy you used when fighting Zapdos. Take enough HPs to get to a low point and make it go to Sleep. Then, throw out an Ultra Ball. Leave using the other exit (the one you didn't use to get in). You can now Surf the rest of the way to Cinnabar Island. You can't Moltres just yet, so head over to Cinnabar. Cinnibar Island: Cinnabar Island is pretty small. No one really lives here. It is home to a genetics research lab. Grab the fossil you got at Mt. Moon and the Old Amber. Bring them to the house in the lower left part of Cinnabar. Go to the door all the way to the right. Talk to the scientist at the top of the room. He will talk about how he resurrects Pokémon. Give him your fossil or Old Amber. Leave and then come back, the item will have turned into a Pokémon. Give the scientist your other item and he will turn it into a Pokémon too. In the building, you can trade a Raichu for an Electrode, a Venonat for a Tangela, and a Ponyta for a Seel. Next stop, is the building just north of the Pokémon Lab. Here, you'll find plenty of Fire Pokémon. Water Pokémon will extinguish them. One vital note for success in this area is that the statues in here have secret switches which open/close the doors. You'll need to use the switches to access new areas (albeit closing some). The way you can access the basement is by jumping off a ledge (the scientist on the 3rd floor hints to this). They are the open areas in the wall just south of the scientist (on the 3rd floor). Walking through them will send you back to the 1st floor, but maybe in a new area. You should find stairs leading to the basement. In the basement, you can find the key that unlocks the door to the Gym. Once you leave the building, you should heal your Pokémon and go to the gym. You'll have to fight trainers in every room so you can open the door leading to the next one. If you need to heal, just leave and come back (you usually have to do this at least once). Blaine, the gym leader, also specializes in Fire Pokémon. He has some high level ones though. If your Water Pokémon aren't high enough to take them down, you should go back and get some more experience for them, Blaine will always be here. Defeating Blaine gives you the Volcanobadge (which raises the Special of all your Pokémon) and TM 38, Fireblast. Fireblast is an excellent fire attack and will go well with your high level Fire Pokémon. Evertying okay now? Fly back to Viridian City (yes, Viridian City). Viridian city (again): Viridian City may not look too different. But, there is a difference you may want to know about. The Viridian City gym has reopened. Go inside, but prepare for a good battle(s). The trainers in here are the hardest you've faced so far. Your Pokémon need to be at high levels with strong attacks to survive. They all have a variety of Pokémon, so you are not really strong against all them. You should have a diverse lineup that can handle most situations. I suggest saving at the beginning. It is possible to block your way to the Gym Leader (who resides in the top left corner of the gym) and leaving won't help the problem. You could be stuck at this point in the game forever. It's rare, but it happens. Use your best judgment to make your way to the top left. If you can't here is the easiest path to use. First, take the path that leads to the three trainers, don't try to get through them though. You don't get anything for it except experience and money. Instead, engage the trainer that is above them. Go around him after you beat him and engage the other trainer that was against the wall. He'll move down and fight you. Beat him and go back to the start (but don't leave). Now, go north through the eastern most path and take the slide bars that go left ward. It will take you past most of the trainers. You can continue on to meet the Gym Leader. Easily enough, you find out the Gym Leader was…Giovanni. Yup, the Team Rocket boss also doubles as a Gym Leader. Like before, he uses tough, strong Pokémon. Did someone say Psychic? Yeah, Psychic is handy again in here, but you can also use Pokémon with strong elemental attacks (fire, water, grass, etc.) Beating him will give you the final badge, the Earthbadge. The Earthbadge will make all Pokémon obey your commands. Now, leave the Gym and heal up. Make sure to get your Pokémon to your desired levels (around 70-80 is best) and take the west exit out of Viridian City. Head towards the Pokémon League HQ. Victory Road: You may have came here, back in the beginning of the game. You were turned away at the gate. But now, with your awesome collection of badges, you can pass through the headquarters with ease. Keep on going north. Guards will stop you along the way, but your badges will allow you to pass through. You'll soon reach the Victory Road gate. You may think Victory Road is your final stop, but go inside anyway. Well, Victory Road is another cave. You'll have to use your wits to get out of the cave. The trainers in here are not novices. You'll have to face many of them plus the hard wild Pokémon in the cave. You'll have to use strength to push boulders around to trigger switches to open paths. And, this is also where Moltres lives. A lot to do? Yup. If your purpose to get all the Pokémon in the game, try to go for Moltres. The path to him is off the main path, so you'll have to try all the ladders to get him. Use the same strategy you've followed before. Low hp + Sleep & Pokémon = Captured. If you just want to beat the game, forget about Moltres for now and find the exit leading out towards Indigo Plateau. Go through the easy maze of statues and make a break for the door. Well, this is it. The last point you have to back out. In here, you'll find your friend who helps you at the gyms. You'll also probably welcome the PC, shop, and Pokémon Center provided here. If your ready, go through the north exit. If your not, go out and you can come back later on (don't worry, you can always fly back so you won't have to go through Victory Road again). Elite Four: Make up your Elite Team first off. Make sure the Pokémon you pick are in high levels (around 70 and above). You'll want 2 Psychic Pokémon, a Fire Pokémon, a Water Pokémon, and an Electric Pokémon. Buy some healing items (you'll need them). Note you can't run away once your start fighting the Elite Four. Now, go through the north exit. Lorelei is your first matchup. Her Pokémon: Lvl. 54 Dewgong Lvl. 53 Cloyster Lvl. 54 Slowbro Lvl. 56 Jynx Lvl. 56 Lapras. Bruno is your second matchup. His Pokémon: Lvl. 53 Onix Lvl. 55 Hitmonchan Lvl. 55 Hitmonlee Lvl. 56 Onix Lvl. 58 Machamp Agatha is your third matchup. Her Pokémon: Lvl. 56 Gengar Lvl. 56 Golbat Lvl. 55 Haunter Lvl. 58 Arbok Lvl. 60 Gengar Lance is your fourth matchup: His Pokémon: Lvl. 58 Gyarados Lvl. 56 Dragonair Lvl. 56 Dragonair Lvl. 60 Aerodactyl Lvl. 62 Dragonite Gary:Gary's Pokémon depend entirely on the Pokémon you picked at the beginning. I know you will see Pidgeot, Alakazam, Rhydon, and Gyarados. The other two Pokémon depend on the Pokémon you picked. You'll see the evolved form of the Pokémon Gary picked plus another Pokémon from the same type.
