"Table for One"
To my right is a table set for one.
This table is set for the many members
of our profession who are missing form our midst
this evening.
To the community, they are firefighters.
To us, they are brothers and sisters.
Which are unable to be with us this evening.
Please allow me to share with you
the symbolism of this table
that has been set for these the
fallen firefighters.
The white table cloth symbolizes
"purity"
of their intentions to respond
to their department's every call.
The floral arrangement also tells a story.
The "Red Rose"
is for those who made the ultimate
"sacrifice"
They gave their life so that others could live.
The "White Rose" is for those who
witnessed and experienced
"tragedy and destruction"
firsthand and are still with us today.
The "Slice of Lemon" is on the plate
to remind us of their
Bitter Fate"
The "Salt" is on the plate,
symbolic of the
"tears"
shed by friends and family.
The "Candle" is a
"beacon"
of light.
A symbol of their memories
that will keep burning in our hearts
until the Lord unites us once again.
The "Glass" is inverted
They cannot toast with us.
The "Chair" is empty
They are not here,
but let's not forget them.
There will be a short ceremony
to remember those friends
who are no longer with us.
Please direct your attention to the
"TABLE SET FOR ONE"
at the right of the head table
