This three way war inside a steel cage had extra meaning, as The World Wrestling Federation owner Mr. McMahon declared that the winner would become the number one contender for the Federations Championship. Mankind hung back, as Shamrock and The Rock battled it out in the early stages of the match, hoping to pounce the muscular gladiators after they had weakened each other.
Shamrock appeared to take offense to this and caught Mankind in a abdominal strecth. Seeing this, The Rock snuck up from behind and trapped Shamrock in the same hold. Later, Shamrock and Mankind took turns beating on The Rock. The Rock replied by powerslamming both of his foes and hitting them stimultaneously with a double peoples elbow.
Mankind was the first to make it over the cage. Before he could descend to the arena floor, The Rock pulled him back to the top of the enclosure. Mankind fought the treat away. But instead of proceding back down he perched himself on top of the pen and dove at The Rock, who rolled out of the way as Mankind plummeted to the canvas. Shortly afterward, Shamrock tried crawling through the door of the cage. Although unsuccessful, he did manage to pull a chair into the ring.
Mankind used the weapon against Shamrock, knocking him out =and once again climbing over the cage. But before Mankind could reach the arena floor, a bloody Rock covered Shamrock and scored the pin--earning the numbr one contender spot.
